Position Overview: The Project Engineering Director is a key member of the Supplier Engineering group, which is part of Insulet’s Operations organization. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering. Insulet manages a global supply base and sources precision components from around the world for use in its devices. The SDE team is responsible for all supplier projects with regards to safety, service, capacity, cost, supply strategy etc. (Definition of SDE is Supplier Development Engineering) This role will lead multiple sub-functions within the SDE team such as Project Engineering, Site Supplier Engineering, Plastics Engineering and limited Automation Engineering.

The Sr Dir of Project Engineering works closely with peers and leaders in Sourcing, Ops, Quality, and Manufacturing to manage, drive and implement all SDE projects across the globe, drive technical and financial rigor within the team, and educate and mentor all Project Engineers across all sites with regards to execution of projects. They will be responsible for all metrics regarding project execution. They will also lead the site facing supplier engineering work, balancing project execution work with site reactive needs.

 The ideal candidate has experience demonstrated technical project execution and engineering rigor. They also will have led teams through project management and challenging supplier projects. Worked to build supplier management of tools such as molds, stamping tools, springs etc. They will be responsible for execution of projects with a spend of $27M+ a year that includes financial and resource management.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and implement a project engineering team for all SDE projects
  • Report to Operations executives on project health, priorities and metrics
  • Develop KPI’s and metrics associated with all SDE projects that are transparent and easily accessible through Power BI
  • Coach and mentor all Project Engineer’s with regards to project and technical acumen
  • Ensure feasibility projects have the correct technical rigor before taking on project execution
  • Hold accountability for project execution
  • Accountable for root cause analysis for supplier issues driving site challenges
  • Drive financial rigor with governance mechanisms to ensure financial accuracy
  • Coordinate with FP&A finance team to support CAPEX and OPEX financial operating rhythm
  • Lead overseas teams (Malaysia and China) with regards to supplier projects also Site facing PE’s

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:

  • BS Engineering
  • Training or on the job demonstrated (10 years) development of supplier tools, automation, demonstrated technical rigor
  • Capital and Project Financial acumen
  • Demonstrated large team leadership
  • Operations / Business acumen
  • 15 years of career experience in Engineering, Project Management, Operations etc
  • Proven track record of delivery of results

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • MS or MBA
  • Experience directly managing projects from feasibility through launch (type of project not specific)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Smartsheet, MS project, SAP, Microsoft family of products
  • Six Sigma Process Improvement Experience/Certification

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $195,400.00 - $293,500.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
