Job Description:

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

If so, LEAP (Leveraging Activities and Partnerships to Address Obesity) with Iowa State University Health and Human Sciences Extension and Outreach is currently seeking applicants for a Project Coordinator! This position will be classified as a Program Specialist I.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide technical assistance to staff and partners on program planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting

  • Coordinate trainings and collaborate with external experts to support program needs

  • Develop tools, resources, and guidance for program activities across multiple levels

  • Build and maintain partnerships to support program goals and funding opportunities

  • Support advisory groups, stakeholder engagement, and partner initiatives

  • Coordinate data collection efforts and manage data systems and tools

  • Analyze data and prepare reports, including required program and grant reporting

  • Oversee daily program operations, team coordination, and project activities

  • Manage communications, including website content, social media, and newsletters

  • Represent the program at meetings, trainings, and events

The primary office location for this position will be an extension office in the state of Iowa and the location will be dependent on the successful candidate and office availability.

This is a fixed-term position with an end date of 9/30/2027, with the opportunity for renewal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Exercise Science, or related field.

  • Experience with program evaluation frameworks and tools, especially in public health or community-based settings.

  • Familiarity with federal nutrition programs (e.g., SNAP, WIC) and/or Food is Medicine initiatives.

  • Project coordination across multiple concurrent tasks.

  • Experience developing communication materials or plans for programs, ideally in a public health or nutrition-related setting.

  • Experience with data collection for federally funded projects.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach received funds from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to work in Iowa counties where 40% or more of adults have obesity. Six Iowa counties are working with local leaders to increase access to healthy food and safe, accessible places to be physically active.
