This position performs a wide variety of laboratory duties, including maintaining the lab area, handling human cadaver specimens, preparing and setting up dissection labs, cleaning labware, and ordering all required supplies. The incumbent utilizes applicable lab equipment and implements established procedures, including biomechanical testing equipment and applicable computer programs. The position also participates in regularly scheduled meetings with faculty and residents and assists as needed. 

Location: Banner Residency Administrative Office 1320 North 10th Street, Suite A, Phoenix AZ

Hours: This is a Part Time position 25 hours - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 8AM - 1PM Wednesday: 8AM - 6PM  Friday: Off.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position performs a wide variety of laboratory duties, including maintaining the lab area, handling human cadaver specimens, preparing and setting up dissection labs, cleaning labware, and ordering all required supplies. The incumbent utilizes applicable lab equipment and implements established procedures, including biomechanical testing equipment and applicable computer programs. The position also participates in regularly scheduled meetings with faculty and residents and assists as needed. 

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Performs laboratory duties, including maintaining the lab area, handling human cadaver specimens, preparing and setting up dissection labs, cleaning labware, and ordering all required supplies. 

2. Demonstrates an understanding of the computer systems used in the department.  Performs basic maintenance checks on laboratory equipment and computers. 

3. Participates in departmental financial responsibilities through the appropriate use of supplies and materials and assists with inventory management. Participates in department initiatives to reduce costs and improve service.  

4. Tracks and maintains the specimen inventory.

5. Focuses on quality by ensuring all work performed is accurate, complete, and performed within the timeframes required by the department. 

6. Follows established methods and practices and demonstrates basic problem-solving skills.

7. Communicates courteously, professionally, effectively, and accurately with internal and external customers. Demonstrates skills for basic computer inquiry and problem solving and use of communication equipment. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills. Promotes positive communications that enhance teamwork.

8. Performs miscellaneous support duties as required and defined by the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

Must possess knowledge of scientific laboratory processes and procedures with college level courses in Science, Chemistry, or related areas. 

Experience typically gained through a minimum of one year of biomedical laboratory experience. Must be able to follow instructions and protocols. Incumbent must maintain absolute confidentiality regarding specimens and the findings associated with the laboratory functions. Must have basic knowledge and understanding of medical terminology in order to read, identify, and extract pertinent data from laboratory records and information. Must be able to multi-task and re-prioritize duties as needed. Excellent human relations, organizational and communication skills are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or related field.  Statistical analysis experience preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
