Job Summary

Caterpillar has been leveraging AI for years to deliver processes and products. Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence which has a human-level of cognitive function, across a wide variety of domains such as language processing, image processing, computational functioning to mimic human-like reasoning. GenAI is an emerging technology that will play a vital role in profitable growth for Caterpillar.

Cat IT is working hard to enable a safe environment where the business can innovate and thrive. They have developed an Intelligent Automation Center of Excellence to operationalize Caterpillar IT’s GenAI COE services to deliver business value by developing deep expertise to be able to scale and drive efficiencies, ensure we are providing solutions using the right technology, and has approved below roles to support the growing demand for GenAI COE services.

What You Will Do:

Caterpillar is looking for an experienced AI Solution Developer to help build the foundations of our enterprise Generative AI Capabilities. You will work on a wide range of initiatives supporting cutting-edge AI research and development, all in our public cloud infrastructure. You will work in a team that interacts with a cross functional team consisting of architects from various services, engineers and SME's to develop Generative AI solutions.  

Here are some of the exciting responsibilities this position contains: 

  • Architect, build and deploy well-managed core APIs and SDKs to access LLMs and our proprietary Foundational Models including training, fine-tuning and prompting tasks, including orchestration SDKs. 

  • Design APIs for performance, real-time applications, scale, ease of use and governance automation. 

  • Develop application-specific interfaces that leverage LLMs and FMs to continue to enhance customer experience. 

  • Enable and democratize our users to build new Gen AI capabilities. 

  • Develop tools and processes to monitor API access patterns and operational health. 

  • Design and implement Responsible AI with guardrails. 

What You Have:

  • Bachelors or Master's in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. 

  • Familiarity with building large-scale AI products, Generative AI solutions, or platforms for NLP, speech, computer vision, or recommendation systems. 

  • Have experience with API security, observability, cloud access control and privacy best practices. 

  • Experience with cloud platforms and distributed computing for scalable model training. 

  • Software development experience in support of enterprise-grade solutions 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively. 

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to move fast in an environment with ambiguity at times, and with competing priorities and deadlines.  

  • Ability to iterate rapidly with researchers and engineers to improve product experience while building the foundational capabilities.

Compensation & Benefits:

Base salary for this role ranges from $123,480 - $200,640 Actual salary will be based on experience. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:
