The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Biotechnology is seeking a Senior Technical Executive to provide comprehensive support to our teaching and research labs. This role involves close collaboration with academic, technical, and research staff, as well as students, to ensure the smooth operation and safety of both teaching and central research laboratories. The Senior Technical Executive will be responsible for preparing lab consumables, managing equipment, delivering training, and assisting with experimental procedures and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in design/modify and set-up undergraduate teaching experiments including prepare, conduct and supervise laboratory lessons for chemical and biological related experiments.

  • Support the faculty, research staff and students in carrying out their research activities including operating, maintaining & training of common lab equipment.

  • Guide new and inexperienced users in operation of laboratory equipment.

  • Support the manager to perform diagnostic tests and in-house repair process in the event of equipment failure, engage vendor for periodic calibration and preventive maintenance.

  • Ensure adequate lab consumables and manage purchasing of materials and inventory control.

  • Liaise with suppliers on equipment setup, repair and maintenance.

  • Conduct and maintain good laboratory housekeeping and safe laboratory practices.

  • Carry out strategic budget proposal, tracking expenses associated with lab equipment and consumables.

  • Support students’ technical projects and lab tours.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the reporting officer and school management.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Applied Science and Technology, Engineering, or a related field, with at least 2 years of relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge or experience in operating and maintaining scientific and laboratory equipment, gas or liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, thermal analysis instruments, particle analysers is a plus.

  • A basic understanding of chemicals, chemical reactors, process engineering, and material analysis is a plus.

  • Meticulous, good learning ability and able to work independently with minimal guidance.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

  • Effective at maintaining accurate records of lab chemicals, consumables, equipment inventories, and maintenance activities.

  • Experienced in laboratory support and management, including writing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and conducting risk assessments.
