About the Role

We are seeking a Payroll Compliance Manager to lead our payroll tax compliance, regulatory reporting, and process governance across multi-state and international payroll operations. In this role, you will ensure adherence to all applicable tax regulations while driving process improvements, enhancing internal controls, and partnering with Finance, HR, Legal, and external vendors. This is a strategic position that requires expertise in payroll tax compliance, equity taxation, and global mobility income sourcing.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee multi-state and international payroll tax compliance, ensuring adherence to all applicable federal, state, local, and international regulations.
  • Manage payroll-related reporting requirements, including quarterly/annual filings (e.g., 941s, W-2s, T4s) and year-end reconciliations.
  • Monitor and implement updates for supplemental tax rates related to U.S. and international stock transactions, ensuring proper tax treatment for equity compensation.
  • Confirm accurate cross-border income sourcing for expatriates and relocations, addressing payroll tax implications for mobile employees.
  • Address complex payroll tax inquiries from employees and business partners by providing prompt and well-informed answers.
  • Conduct payroll tax reconciliations and internal audits to identify and resolve discrepancies, reinforcing SOX compliance with robust payroll controls and accurate documentation.
  • Respond promptly to tax agency notices and coordinate any required external audits.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to maintain accurate payroll tax setups and implement compliance initiatives.
  • Develop and continuously enhance payroll compliance policies, internal controls, and SOPs to ensure consistent and effective application across all entities.
  • Lead projects focused on system enhancements, process automation, and regulatory updates to improve operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 7+ years of payroll tax and compliance experience in a multi-state and/or global environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; CPP or FPC certification is highly desirable.
  • Strong expertise in share-based income taxation and global mobility tax compliance.
  • Proficiency in payroll tax reconciliations, audits, and regulatory filings.
  • Experience with Workday Payroll and ADP SmartCompliance is an asset.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
