As a Safety Engineer, you will support and perform engineering statutory and compliance activities for a Biopharmaceutical manufacturing site. The role includes review and adherence to site engineering standards, specifications, procedures, supporting auditable compliance framework, and interfacing between and across GSK site engineering groups, central engineering, and EHS functions to facilitate proper and timely execution of ENG/EHS capital projects, improvements, and other ENG/EHS compliance initiatives.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following…

  • Support the site’s engineering systems, statutory, compliance adherence, and auditable framework for the site with regards to:
    • Systems: Drawing/TOP documentation management, ERP plant maintenance activities, Risk Based Inspections
    • ENG/EHS Standards, ENG Alerts, ENG Blue Chips (e.g., PCCE, Basis of Safety, Process Safety, Legionella, and Boilers), Statutory/Regulatory requirements, and ENG/EHS audits
  • Support the Facilities and Engineering teams to identify and deliver site and system improvements to better execute safe and compliant work.
  • Own major engineering compliance initiatives and events. Facilitate engineering activities, studies (PHIRA, HAC, MSRA, etc.), and budgets required for the above.
  • Participate in investigations to determine root cause and drive corrective actions related to safety related incidents (pSIF events).
  • Familiarity with process safety, machinery safety, Permit to Work (PTW), and Hazardous Energy Control (LOTO) systems.
  • Develop, own, and facilitate training modules for engineering specific topics (LOTO, permit to work, process safety, machinery safety, contractor safety, etc.). Facilitate the training, standard work, and performance management to ensure that engineering activities are performed consistently in a safe and efficient manner compliant to all statutory and GSK standards.
  • Facilitate and support the service provider/contractor management program as they pertain to engineering compliance.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in an Engineering, Plant Operations, Life Sciences, or EHS functional role with a focus on safety.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or biopharmaceuticals environment.
  • Experience with mechanical systems, electrical systems, instrumentation, computers, and process equipment.
  • Experience with EHS and Engineering standards and statutory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Certified Safety Professional, Certified Machinery Safety Engineer.
  • Strong technical skills in mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil, structural, biopharmaceutical, or construction management.
  • Demonstrated capability of interfacing with large matrix organizations with excellent communication, influencing, and coaching abilities at all levels within the organization.
  • Proven capability to lead projects and motivate others (line & matrix; and multi-disciplinary & cross functional) to deliver business solutions and benefits.
  • Demonstrate initiative, creative, and analytical problem-solving skills (critical thinking) to use and interpret data to drive decision making at both tactical and strategic level.
