Job Description:
DME Intake Specialists receive incoming requests for DME items/services, obtain or validate all necessary related information to ensure the correct items/services are provided and that funding source coverage requirements are met for those items/services. DME Intake Specialists review clinical documentation, verify and pursue appropriate physician orders based on eligibility for items/services, and accurately enter this information into the patient record. DME Intake Specialists communicate clearly and compassionately, while acting as a liaison between referring facilities, provider offices, and with patients and families about these items/services. DME Intake Specialists handle a varied caseload including patients for all DME items and services. They develop close working relationships with coworkers across the system including hospital case management staff and primary care offices as well as CoxHealth at Home teammates. This position is ideal for a candidate who can work well independently while closely following established protocols. DME Intake Specialists collaborate closely with teammates to ensure patients’ needs are met in a timely fashion.Education: ▪ Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience: ▪ Required: 1 year healthcare or customer service experience ▪ Preferred: 2 years experience in a healthcare setting Skills: ▪ Ability to deal effectively and courteously with patients, families, coworkers, physicians, and community resources while exhibiting an empathetic attitude toward the sick and elderly. ▪ Strong problem-solving skills. ▪ Ability to prioritize shifting caseload containing multiple time-sensitive needs. ▪ Impeccable follow through. ▪ Ability to work independently with easy access to reference materials, supervisors, and coworkers. ▪ Medical terminology would be extremely helpful. ▪ Working knowledge of insurance reimbursement would be helpful. ▪ Comfortable working as part of a team which includes both asking for and offering help and communicating effectively. ▪ Adept in Microsoft Office suite. ▪ Flexible and adaptable to procedural changes.
