Job Title:

Job Summary:

Develops, implements, and evaluates a program of specialized care for patients in the outpatient burn center. As part of the division leadership team and working collaboratively, helps lead burn clinical operations and quality improvement, best practices and program development. Ensures access and exemplary patient care to patients and referring physicians, centers and clinicians. Promotes a collaborative relationship and effort between the medical and clinic staff toward continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources. Participates in research initiatives. Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assist specific service line’s leadership team in daily operations of the burn center. Collaborates with the Medical Director to establish and maintain standards of practice related to the program’s mission. Assist in the development of burn center patient care guidelines/protocols in accordance with the ABA (American Burn Association) standards of care and hospital wide policy and procedure.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required: Graduate of an approved nurse practitioner program or physician assistant program and hold national certification and a minimum of three (3) years experience as an APP is required.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:  Mississippi APRN license or eligible for Mississippi APRN license. Must obtain nurse practitioner certification from the Mississippi Board of Nursing prior to hire date.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to perform history and physical in outpatient and inpatient setting, assist in the operating room, perform bedside debridement of patients, and bedside procedures in the ICU including central line, arterial line etc.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the medical center in collaboration with appropriate agencies, professional groups, and other healthcare providers and hospitals in the central MS burn region in the development of a strategic plan for public awareness and burn prevention.
  • Collaborates with hospital administration and the burn service medical director in coordination of the budgetary process for the medical center's burn program.
  • Represents the medical center and serves as liaison with local EMS personnel, MS State Dept. of Health, and Regional Burn Advisory Committees and other burn centers.
  • Conducts complex, standardized patient care procedures which require experience and specialized training which would otherwise be performed by a physician, but which do not constitute the practice of medicine.
  • Conducts independent and physician supervised rounding on unit
  • Performs relevant patient evaluations and assessments and provides appropriate treatment; including monitoring and ordering medications.
  • Coordinates, directs, and implements the patient’s plan of care.
  • Assists in collecting patient histories, screens for co-morbidities, and provides guidance and preventative health care as needed.
  • Performs physical examinations and provides episodic care or problem-oriented care under the supervision of a physician. 
  • Orders appropriate laboratory, diagnostic and radiographic tests and interprets the results.
  • Monitors the treatment program of the patient to inform the attending physician of pertinent medical information.
