Pharmacy Technician – Infusion Pharmacy

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for performing routine pharmacy duties and assisting registered Pharmacists with technician pharmacy operations, including the hazardous and non-hazardous compounding of sterile products. 

 

A caregiver in this position works Monday – Friday from 7:30am – 4:00pm and floats to Bath, Green and Stow infusion pharmacies.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist pharmacists in filling infusion suite orders, including completion of necessary documentation. 

  • Prepare, deliver and collect all pharmacy items throughout the infusion suite including re-stocking of automated dispensing cabinets. 

  • Perform floor checks, stock checks, and assigned unit review. 

  • Complete all Pharmacy Keeper activities and inspections assigned to their position. 

  • Complete all necessary documentation of compounding steps in Pharmacy Keeper as required by the department’s standard operating procedures. 

  • Assist Pharmacists in monitoring stock for outdated medications and properly disposing of them in a timely manner. 

  • Process medication returns/refunds to patient accounts. 

  • Perform sterile compounding in compliance with USP <797> and USP <800> (if compound is hazardous) regulations.  

  • Maintain compliance with all written and hands on aseptic technique testing as required by USP <797> regulations. 

  • Prepackage medication as necessary and according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 

  • Answer telephones and assist callers with needs that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. 

  • Assist customers of the infusion suite including caregivers, couriers and others as needed. 

  • Perform general cleaning duties as assigned to maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and meet regulatory compliance in the I.V. admixture area. 

  • Perform inventory control functions including ordering from our wholesaler and maintaining appropriate parts of inventory as required by the department and patient care. 

  • Work in accordance with established practices, procedures and administrative policies.  

  • Complete the pharmacy department’s training program for Pharmacy Technicians.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED.  

  • Registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.  

  • Passed the C.Ph.T test and continues to meet continuing education requirements to keep C.Ph.T certification in good standing.  

  • Experience as a Pharmacy Technician.  

  • Ability to interact with EPIC, our dispensing automation software (e.g. Omnicell, etc.), and Pharmacy Keeper to answer all questions related to the processing of a medication order. 

  • Proficient typing skills.  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate’s degree or completion of some college coursework.  

  • CPhT-CSP certification.  

  • Experience in a hospital inpatient pharmacy.  

  • Experience in a USP797 compliant sterile products compounding room.  

  • Experience with EPIC and other similar programs.  

  • Experience in compounding hazardous chemotherapy.  

  • Understanding of medical terminology and calculations.  

  • IV compounding skills.  

  • Oncology experience.
