As a Software Engineer/UI Tech Lead – Level 5 supporting a team located in Morrisville, NC, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.
This role will be a member of our Software and Electronics/Payloads Department which has ~200 Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Systems Administrators, Database Administrators, Network Engineers, and Engineering Leaders from entry-level to the most senior chief engineers and architects to Product Owners and Scrum Masters. This engineering organization supports numerous programs across Divisions and Business Units of the Space Sector. We have opportunities for career advancement into higher level technical roles or leadership positions over one’s career.
This work will primarily be performed in a SCIF environment. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
We are seeking a seasoned Software Engineer to lead a small, high‑performing development team focused on building and evolving user‑interface (UI) applications deployed in cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience across the full stack—backend services, frontend UI, and cloud operations—and a proven track record of extending existing UI platforms with new capabilities while championing Agile development practices.
This position is contingent upon the candidate verification/obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company.
Basic Qualifications (must have/required to be considered):
Requires an active U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret (TS) clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) within a reasonable period of time, and ability to complete and favorably succeed a Counterintelligence polygraph
Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 10 years of professional experience – OR PhD with 8 years of professional experience.Will consider an additional 4+ years of experience in lieu of a degree.
Experience with Full‑Stack Development: Design, implement, and maintain backend services (e.g., APIs, data processing).
Experience with analyzing existing UI codebases to identify improvement opportunities to extend functionality, improve performance and scalability, and ensure maintainability.
Experience with Agile Processes
Experience producing and maintaining architectural diagrams, API specs, and developer guides.
Experience with TypeScipt/Node.js, React or equivalent (Angular, Vue)
Preferred Qualifications (not required, but nice to have):
Current/Active SCI
Adjudicated CI or FS polygraph
Experience with containerization (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes).
Knowledge of UI performance optimization.
Exposure to automated testing frameworks.
Languages: Python, Golang
Technologies: NestJS, Express, Redis, BullMQ, SQL Database, RxJS, GitLab
Cloud Services: AWS (EC2, S3, CloudFront, Amplify, RDS)

Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $256,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
