JOB SUMMARY:

Performs all duties of an Electrician. Leads the Electricians in performing a wide variety of complex work covering all phases of electrical maintenance, renovations, and new construction with minimum supervision. Assigns, coordinates, and ensures completion of work orders. Oversees the quality of work and provides guidance related to best practices and methodology. Manages tools and inventory. Applies for and maintains the necessary licensure and permits required by the State of Rhode Island.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

  • Performs all duties of an Electrician.
  • Applies for and maintains annual electrical permits for all electrical work performed on Campus.
  • Applies for and maintains a limited maintenance license with the State of Rhode Island.
  • Troubleshot problems with the fire alarm system, board, and device wiring related to all fire alarm systems.  
  • Assigns and completes work orders, entering hours and materials. Oversees the quality of work and provides guidance related to best practices and methodology.
  • Identifies work orders and projects that require the use of outside contractors, and secures their services, overseeing and inspecting their work when in progress and upon completion.
  • Procures, obtains, and inventories all stock to ensure a consistent workflow.
  • Ensures care and maintenance of tools, machinery, and inventory of materials assigned to the team necessary for the assignment.
  • Reads and interprets schematics and motor control diagrams. Interprets diagrams, plan schematics, drawings, and manufacturers' programming for fire alarms.
  • Ensures rules for safety and security, including OSHA regulations, are observed and practiced, and recommends changes to the supervisor as may be appropriate.
  • Drives RISD vehicles to transport materials and staff to the job site(s), possibly outside normal business hours.
  • Serves as an Essential Employee and responds to emergencies on call on a rotating basis with other electrical staff.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs other related assignments as may be required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A High school diploma or trade school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the electrical maintenance field, including a minimum of 5 years leading or supervising others.

  • Knowledge and understanding of high voltage and low voltage distribution systems.

  • Demonstrated electrical metallic tubing installation and bending skills, and ability to read schematics and motor control diagrams. 

  • Knowledge of OSHA and safety best practices.

  • Ability to service a wide variety of machines and equipment of varying complexity.

  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work and communicate effectively both independently and in a team setting with internal and external constituents.

  • Ability to work well in a high-volume environment with rapidly changing needs and priorities.

  • Computer literacy, including the use of software programs such as Word, Excel, Workday, TMA systems or equivalent and associated trade specific software, as well as the willingness and ability to learn and use new technologies and continue job-related training and remain knowledgeable and ensure compliance with related industry codes and standards.

Preferred but not required skills and experience:

  • OSHA 10 certification

REQUIRED LICENSES:

  • RI State Master’s License. Successful and continued enrollment in the State mandated training program pertaining to the NEC.

  • RI State Journeyman’s License.

  • RI Telecom System Contract Data, Video, Telephone, & Sound License (Class A).

  • Valid driver’s license.
