The Role: 

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Store team!  

 

The ideal candidate will play a vital role in all aspects of delivery from design, planning and implementation through to releasing and monitoring. 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Create and execute comprehensible, repeatable, and measurable regression test suites for existing functionality 

  • Create and maintain Integration/Acceptance/UI Tests as part of each story during development 

  • Create and maintain end-to-end tests & documentation 

  • Assist in reviewing business requirements and identify gaps/conflicts with the existing system 

  • Collaborate with software developers and quality assurance analysts to ensure the deliverables meet testing requirements and coverage 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts to ensure requirements are understood and implemented to a high standard 

  • Escalate issues to management quickly and effectively 

  • Log defects and work closely with developers to investigate, troubleshoot and verify defect fixes 

  • Involved with all stages of testing and support of the product 

  • Proactively monitor Production during releases, create and maintain alerts in relevant monitoring tools

Non-Technical 

  • A passion for Software Quality 

  • Ability to work effectively on a self-organizing team with minimal supervision 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

  • Proactive and creative problem solver with the ability to multitask and manage tight deadlines 

  • Research and analytical skills 

  • Experience working in an agile team 

 

Desired Technical Skills: 

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related program 

  • 4+ years experience in software test automation 

  • Experience in analyzing data and extracting relevant and actionable insights 

  • Back end testing experience, both black box and white box 

  • Programming background with experience in C# or a similar OOP language 

  • Some experience in designing and maintaining automation frameworks 

  • Experience in testing REST APIs 

  • Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases 

  • Experience analyzing logs to find the root cause of errors 

  • Experience using containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes 

  • Familiarity with Git or any similar version control system 

  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins 

  • Experience working with Observability tools 

  

Nice to Haves: 

  • Experience using JMeter for performance testing 

  • Experience using Azure DevOps 

  • Experience using Ruby/Ruby on Rails 

  • ISTQB or similar certification
