What you'll do

We’re embarking on a new and exciting phase of the bank’s transformation agenda, and data architecture operation plays a crucial role in achieving our mission to simplify, reduce risk and enable customer engagement and personalisation. Supporting the development of architectures for data intensive solutions and governing the data architecture of the bank is critical to driving simplification, improving data efficiency, and ensuring data risk stays within appetite.

As a Data Engineer, you’ll be looking to simplify the bank by developing innovative data driven solutions through data pipelines, modelling and ETL design, inspiring to be commercially successful while keeping our customers, and the bank’s data, safe and secure. We’ll look to you to bridge the gap between raw data architecture governance data and data architecture simplification tracking reports.

You’ll drive customer value by understanding complex business problems and requirements to correctly apply the most appropriate and reusable tool to gather and build data solutions. You’ll support our strategic direction by engaging with the data architecture and data management community to deliver opportunities, along with carrying out data engineering tasks to build a scalable data architecture.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Building advanced automation of data engineering pipelines
  • Collaborating with data management and data architecture teams ensuring that the reporting aligns with standards and meets requirements
  • Implementing automated data validation processes for data used in data architecture governance and operations
  • Building, maintaining and supporting the data architecture reporting and tracking solutions  and reports, as well as the bank wide data architecture governance tracking platform supporting the onboarding of all bank domains
  • Delivering a clear understanding of data platform costs to meet data architecture operations and governance needs
  • Maintaining thorough documentation of the pipeline, and processing logic and reports

The skills you'll need

To thrive in this role, you’ll need a strong understanding of data usage and dependencies and experience of extracting value and features from large scale data. You’ll also bring practical experience of programming languages alongside knowledge of data and software engineering fundamentals.

Additionally, you’ll need:

  • Experience of ETL technical design, data quality testing, cleansing and monitoring, data sourcing, and exploration and analysis
  • Data warehousing, BI and data modelling capabilities
  • A good understanding of modern code development practices
  • Experience of working in a governed and regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of Tableau, SQL, relational database, NoSQL database, programming language such as Python, EMR or Spark, GitHub and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to proactively engage and manage a wide range of stakeholders
