Per Diem Direct Support Professional (DSP 2) - Westchester County

Job Description

YAI is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support and encouragement to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We work to empower these individuals so they can achieve their fullest life possible, while providing them with a safe and respectful residential environment. We are looking to hire compassionate, experienced, and reliable Direct Support Professionals, at a Level 2, to join our team of dynamic individuals who every day choose to make a difference in the lives of others.

Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) have a passion for working, caring, and advocating for adults with disabilities.  Per diem DSPs play a valuable role at YAI, not only to the people we support, but in becoming a team player for programs that are reaching out for additional staff.  By downloading an app to your mobile device, you would have the ability to set up your schedule while allowing for other responsibilities or obligations in your life.  As “Per diem” you can select the shifts you want, for the days you want, and provide assistance during the hours that you are available.

Per diem DSP 2 staff must have previously worked as a DSP 1 and possess the knowledge and skillset inherent with supporting individuals with I/DD.  Coaching and assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) continue to be fundamental to the position, as are other core competencies such as patience, respect, kindness, and accountability.  At a “Level 2”, you will work directly with people in their home, work, and everyday life providing counsel in both individual and group settings.  Principles such as promoting community integration and encouraging inclusive environments are fundamental when working towards objectives.   Additionally, you will utilize higher-level support skills when dealing with individuals having moderate to complex levels of need.  Offering added value such as contributing to the development of treatment plans, or understanding and incorporating person-specific clinical information, are examples of the collaborative relationship that exists between a DSP 2 and program supervisors.  Candidates with integrity, who possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, will be selected for our best-in-class training program.  Candidates will be paid for their time invested in specified coursework and training classes, as well as their commitment to professional development during on-the-job training in the programs.
