We are currently hiring a Travel Insurance Claims Examiner based in our Head Office, operating within a hybrid work environment, with in-office presence on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

As a Travel Insurance Claims Examiner, you will review losses handled by independent adjusters and administer the claims process within the BCAA Insurance Corporation. You see that loss settlements are negotiated within the appropriate Provincial Statutes, and in line with corporation procedures and philosophies of BCAA’s underwritten lines of business.

What you’ll do:

  • Reviews and examines claims, including reviewing the Travel Insurance wording booklet
  • Ensures where applicable, sections of the BC Insurance Act and Provincial Statutes relevant to claims are being adhered to, including Insured’s rights and obligations.
  • Attends Case Review Committee meetings with Service Delivery Partners
  • Investigates any escalations that come through the BCAA network or Service Delivery Partner
  • Reviews information including but not limited to, estimates, hospital records, and other pertinent information required in reviewing a claim
  • When required, reviews 3rd party investigation of the claim and policy wordings to determine if the policy can cover the loss 
  • Directs or approves the negotiation of settlement with the insured, claimant, or claimant’s legal representative either directly or through the services of retained counsel. This can be done through 3rd party Adjusters as well.
  • Validates information, including but not limited to invoices and receipts
  • Processes payments in accordance with BCAA Travel Insurance best practices
  • Ensures claims are processed accurately and on a timely basis and that negotiations are conducted in a professional manner

What you bring:

  • Post-secondary diploma in business or related courses, programs, licenses (insurance related) and/or equivalent work experience
  • At least five years’ experience in a claim environment
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite products (Word, Excel, Outlook)    
  • Bonus Qualifications:
    • CIP designation
    • Multi-lingual to support specialized market demographics
    • Medical background
    • Travel claims background
    • Salesforce experience

The salary range for this position is $70,693.68 to $88,367.16 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%.
