Overview

Linnaeus has grown rapidly through acquisition, and now is the time to optimize business-as-usual operations. The Applications Engineer role will focus on digital product support, stability, and growth. We are embarking on a digital transformation programme to enhance our capabilities, making it an incredibly exciting time to join Linnaeus. This pivotal role will ensure our applications and systems are supported and maintained to the highest standards.

Main purpose & goals

We are looking for a talented Applications Engineer to join our team and focus on supporting and building our technology estate to enable business strategy. The role will be essential in providing 3rd Line support to our Applications & Systems estate but will also lean towards data platforms and integrations. The role requires proficiency in Powershell, Azure, SQL, and other data services such as Azure Data Factory and automations. We can offer hybrid working. There will be a requirement to travel to our head office in Shirley or one of our sites to support business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enable digital transformation initiatives with a focus on Product and Platforms to deliver against data and integrations requirements.
  • Provide level 3 support for a range of products across the business.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to data platforms, integrations, and applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver technical solutions.
  • Document processes, procedures and best practice for platform development and support.  
  • Identify and implement maintenance and system optimizations across applications and data platforms.
  • Implement Process Automation utilising SaaS or code-based products.
  • Deliver Application Projects independently or with a wider Project Team.
  • Develop and maintain Application Integrations across application and system environments.
  • Build, configure, test, and implement application-based projects.
  • Maintain and develop Linnaeus bespoke solutions utilizing PowerShell, Azure Portal, Logic Apps, SQL, Azure Data Factory and automation tools to support and enhance data platforms.
  • Create & Maintain Documentation on Supported Application Services
  • Work with peers at MVH through investigations and project deliverables and leverage application shared services where possible.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Service Desk experience 4+ Years.
  • Worked in Application Support Team at 2nd or 3rd Line, supporting COTS or bespoke solutions 2+ Years.
  • Experience in an Application Development Environment delivering on ‘Code’ products and SaaS configuration.
  • Experience working in Projects delivering on technical tasks.
  • Used and built on PowerShell for process automation.
  • Experience of working with SQL, data Integrations or transformation processes.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices
  • Previous involvement with digital transformational initiatives.
  • Experience with other automation tools like Jenkins or Chef

Knowledge

Essential

  • Microsoft Azure Portal and application services within.
  • Azure Data Bricks / Data Factory / SQL.
  • PowerShell.
  • Agile project delivery methodologies.
  • Process Automation tools and techniques.

Desirable

  • Understanding of Cybersecurity best practices
  • Knowledge of other scripting languages (Python, JavaScript)

  • ITIL
  • DevOps Foundations
  • Azure Foundations

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Advanced certifications in Azure eg Azure Solutions Architect
  • Relevant certifications in other cloud or data platforms
