Job Description:

The System Medical Director for Hospitalists is responsible for leading our employed internal medicine/ family medicine, pediatric hospitalists and pediatricians within the hospitalist program of Allina Health. This position provides leadership in development, implementation, and monitoring of both clinical and administrative efforts for the Hospitalist program in accordance with Allina strategy and initiatives.

Key areas of focus include:
High quality medical outcomes
Efficient medical care (stewardship of resources)
Strategic planning and setting of annual goals
Coordination of hospital medicine practice across the system
Attention to patient experience
Provider experience
Leadership time and accountabilities will be determined at least annually with the Acute Care Clinical Program leadership.

Principle Responsibilities

• Strategic Planning
  • Lead development, adoption, and monitoring of annual Care Initiatives pay for performance plan.
  • Set strategic priorities for Allina Hospitalists through annual strategic planning cadence.
  • Lead through presence at site leadership and group meetings, system hospitalist leadership meetings.
• Quality Outcomes
  • Oversee Hospitalist Quality Improvement Committee (HQIC).
  • Oversee and support site based review and management of quality metrics and initiatives.
  • Oversee system wide education programs.
• Efficiency Outcomes
  • Oversee and support site based review and management of efficiency metrics and initiatives.
• Leadership Development
  • Oversee key leadership development activities for hospitalist leaders including Society of Hospital Medicine Leadership Academy and Allina Clinical Leadership Academy attendance, along with other development opportunities that arise.
  • Mentor Allina hospitalist leaders in their leadership journey.
  • Oversee and support succession planning throughout the Allina Hospital Medicine Program.
• Operational Excellence
  
  Along with the System Hospitalist Operations Director:
  • Lead high yield meetings including
    ◦ System Hospitalist Leadership meeting (Monthly)
    ◦ Weekly operating reviews (Finance, HR, Safety and Quality focused)
    ◦ Hospitalist Program Committee meeting (Monthly)
    ◦ System Hospitalist Tier 1 (weekly)
  • Liaise with Finance, HR, and other supporting functions to ensure hospitalist team members are supported.
  • Support planning and implementation of provider schedule requirements and provider compensation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other strategic partners across the Allina system
  • Acute Care Clinic Program
  • Emergency Medicine System Medical Director
  • Intensivist Medicine System Medical Director
  • VP's Medical Affairs and Directors of Medical Affairs at all Allina hospitals.
  • System Care Management leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • .5 fte System Medical Director

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine and
• Completed a residency program as applicable to their clinical specialty
• 5+ years previous inpatient hospitalist experience
• Significant leadership experience in physician practice setting

Licenses/Certifications

• Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
• Licensed Physician - WI required within 180 days
• Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate required upon hire
