About You and this Role
Dow is seeking a Senior Metallurgist to join our team at our Freeport, Texas manufacturing facility. In this role, you will share responsibility and accountability for the plant assets, personnel and achievement of the plant related business goals. You will also provide influential leadership support to maintenance employees and may function as a liaison to supplement and support other maintenance areas when gaps exist between maintenance and other functions.
Internal clients range from engineering services, new construction projects, operating production facilities, maintenance, and utility operations. In this role, you will work closely with a group of highly experienced engineers and technicians to provide technical advice and recommendations. This position requires hands-on field work during investigations of corrosion and mechanical failures.
Responsibilities
- Lead the improvement programs in the metallurgical and corrosion areas.
- Lead and perform the failure analysis, materials selection (predominately metals and alloys), corrosion control and asset integrity management advice at the large integrated petrochemical facilities. This position requires hands-on field work during investigations of corrosion and materials failures.
- Assures that materials-related inspection and repair are executed as per the specification, codes, and Dow Practices
- Perform on-site and / or shop inspection in person to assure the equipment integrity.
- Work with inspectors and maintenance engineers in the troubleshooting and repair of vessels, tanks, and piping to maximize safety and reliability.
- Provide technical support and guidance related with the materials engineering during the plant turnarounds and shutdowns. It may include technical review and field assessment.
- Coach and train inspection and engineering resources for materials engineering
- Support developing and maintaining MET (Most Effective Technology) Documents.
- Assist and provide technical support to Region, Site and Plant for the metallurgical and corrosion engineering including troubleshooting and technical analysis.
- Participate in Technical Solutions Team (TST) and leverage the practices.
- Supports EH&S engagement, particularly in the field and in the areas of personal safety and compliance.
- Implements and provides on-going support of the Maintenance Procedure Use Policy at the facility. Ensures that all maintenance employees comply with all applicable elements of the policy.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (i.e. maintenance, engineering, manufacturing or related)

- Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Skills
- Materials engineering, corrosion engineering or metallurgical engineering
- Good written and oral communication skills. The job includes leading/facilitating team and group meetings as well as interacting with project teams, vendors and inspectors.
- Good interpersonal skills and function successfully in a collaborative environment.
- Planning and organizational skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
- Attention to detail necessary to maintain the required documentation.
