The Technical Product Owner (TPO) in Assurant IT serves as the key connection point between business partners, operations, architecture, engineering, QA, data teams, and production support. This role is responsible for converting business needs across Assurant’s Connected Home portfolio—including warranty, claims, service contract, appliance, electronics, and jewelry programs—into clear, actionable technical requirements that enable scalable, reliable, and compliant technology solutions.
This is a hands-on technical product role that requires strong ownership of system behavior, integrations, data flows, configuration impacts, release readiness, and production support outcomes. The TPO must be able to dig into details, ask the right technical questions, remove ambiguity for delivery teams, and help drive work forward—not simply manage administrative backlog activities.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
🔹 Product & Technical Ownership
Own and manage the product backlog for assigned Assurant IT applications, platforms, integrations, and services supporting Connected Home business capabilities
Translate business, operational, compliance, client, and production support needs into detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, data requirements, and technical specifications
Lead solution definition discussions with architecture, development, QA, data, and business teams to ensure the proposed design aligns with Assurant IT standards, product goals, client commitments, and operational needs
🔹 Agile Delivery Leadership
Serve as the primary product and requirements contact for Agile delivery teams, ensuring sprint work is clearly defined, prioritized, groomed, and ready for development
Drive backlog refinement, sprint planning, dependency review, and prioritization based on business value, technical feasibility, delivery risk, production impact, and release timing
Review completed work, validate expected system behavior, confirm acceptance criteria are met, and approve stories for release readiness
🔹 Technical Collaboration
Partner closely with engineering, architecture, QA, data, security, infrastructure, and production support teams to design and deliver scalable Assurant IT solutions
Understand, document, and communicate system integrations, APIs, file feeds, database impacts, configuration rules, data mappings, downstream dependencies, and operational handoffs
Identify technical risks, data issues, configuration conflicts, environment constraints, and cross-system impacts early in the delivery lifecycle
🔹 Problem Solving & Process Optimization
Analyze complex claims, warranty, enrollment, billing, product configuration, and client-specific workflows to identify root causes, gaps, and improvement opportunities
Investigate API requests/responses, inbound and outbound files, error logs, and processing results to understand what was received, how the system interpreted the data, and where breakdowns or gaps occurred
Write complex SQL queries to retrieve, compare, and analyze data across multiple tables to support issue investigation, requirement validation, testing, reporting, and production troubleshooting
Coordinate cross-team dependencies, clarify ownership, escalate blockers, and help drive timely resolution across business, IT, vendor, and support teams
Recommend process, system, reporting, automation, and documentation improvements that increase delivery efficiency, reduce defects, and improve operational stability
🔹 Release & Production Readiness
Define and communicate release scope, impacted applications, configuration changes, testing expectations, deployment timing, business validation needs, and go/no-go readiness criteria
Support production deployments by validating system behavior, coordinating post-release checks, triaging issues, and partnering with support teams on incident resolution
Partner with operations, client support, QA, and technology teams to ensure system stability, accurate claim handling, reporting integrity, and continuity of business processes
What are the requirements needed for this position?
3+ years of experience as a Technical Product Owner, Business Analyst, SME or process owner
3+ years of hands-on experience writing technical user stories, API requirements, and system-level documentation
3+ years of experience working with relational databases and SQL (querying data, validating outputs, troubleshooting issues)
3+ years of experience working in Agile development environment
Exposure with AI tools to steam line work flows and processes
Ability to lead, prioritize and work independently or as part of a project team to complete multiple tasks, concurrently
Ability to process complex time sensitive data and information from multiple sources, make decisions and communicate actions
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
