Job Summary
Red Hat’s Performance and Scale Engineering organization is seeking a motivated Software Engineer to join the PSAP (Performance and Scale for AI Platforms) team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of AI infrastructure, responsible for the comprehensive performance and scalability assessment of Red Hat OpenShift AI (RHOAI) working alongside senior performance engineers.
RHOAI is a cornerstone of Red Hat’s AI portfolio, providing a robust platform for managing the full lifecycle of predictive and generative AI (GenAI) models at scale across the hybrid cloud. As a member of this team, you will not only evaluate performance but also architect the frameworks and define the benchmarks that ensure Red Hat remains a leader in the hybrid cloud AI market. You will work in a fast-paced, open-source environment where you can further grow your skills in Kubernetes, and large-scale distributed system performance analysis alongside some of the best performance engineers in the industry.
This is a dynamic role for an engineer with a growth mindset who handles and adapts to rapid change, has a strong commitment to open-source values, and the willingness to learn and apply new technologies. You will be joining a vibrant open source culture, and helping promote performance and innovation in this Red Hat engineering team. The broader mission of the Performance and Scale team is to establish performance and scale leadership of the Red Hat product and cloud services portfolio. The scope includes component level, system and solution analysis and targeted enhancements. The team collaborates with engineering, product management, product marketing and customer support as well as Red Hat’s hardware and software ecosystem partners.
At Red Hat, our commitment to open source innovation extends beyond our products - it’s embedded in how we work and grow. Red Hatters embrace change – especially in our fast-moving technological landscape – and have a strong growth mindset. That's why we encourage our teams to proactively, thoughtfully, and ethically use AI to simplify their workflows, cut complexity, and boost efficiency. This empowers our associates to focus on higher-impact work, creating smart, more innovative solutions that solve our customers' most pressing challenges.
What you will do
Formulate and execute rigorous test plans to benchmark RHOAI components, including but not limited to GenAI API servers, vector databases, MCP Gateways, and Feature Stores.
Develop and maintain tools and automated frameworks to streamline performance data collection and statistical analysis.
Identify performance bottlenecks in AI workloads and collaborate with senior engineers to propose and implement optimizations.
Assist in triaging performance-related issues and support customer-facing teams with data-driven insights.
Document test results, contribute to technical blogs, and participate in internal and external engineering conferences to showcase team innovations.
What you will bring
Master's degree in computer science or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with 1+ years of relevant industry experience.
Proficiency in Python, with the ability to write clean, maintainable code for automation, scripting, and data processing.
Experience with data analysis libraries like Pandas or NumPy.
Ability to work in a Linux environment with a basic understanding of system resources like CPU, memory, and I/O.
Basic knowledge of systems performance metrics and the ability to interpret data through visualization.
Foundational understanding of AI concepts, including classical ML, Gen AI, and agentic AI.
Proficiency in English (verbal and written) with the ability to explain technical findings clearly.
The following is considered a plus
Basic familiarity with Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift, including containers, pods, and orchestration.
Experience using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development.
Passion for open source software and a desire to contribute to the community.
