Manufacturing Engineering & Processes Support Intern (12 months)

Lumentum Switzerland AG is a leading design center of ultrafast pico- and femtosecond laser systems featuring excellent performance and long-term opto-mechanical stability. Our products mainly serve commercial applications in micromachining markets.

We seek an energetic Intern for our Manufacturing Engineering Team, to work in a fast paced, international development environment. The candidate should have strong skills in some of the following areas; Mechanics, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automation and Electrical/Electronics. The position is limited to 1 year.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support in mechanical installation of the manual and robotic manufacturing stations.
  • Support engineers for the equipment set-up, interface and troubleshooting.
  • Support for maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Support logistics operations including inventory management, shipping, and receiving
  • Support by troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues in machinery and robotic equipment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve processes and operations efficiency

Success Indicators:

  • Good understanding of mechanics.
  • Some experience in electrical wiring. Troubleshooting skills with ability to understand schematics.
  • Some experience with robotics, industrial automation, pneumatic systems, actuators and sensors.
  • Strong analytical skills, judgment and problem-solving ability.
  • Team player with very good communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree from a Technical College or high school in Mechanics, Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronics, or in a similar field.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Very good German and English verbal/written communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, work ethic, responsiveness, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Must be eligible to work in Switzerland as an intern on a full-time basis.

Additional Desired Experience:

  • Manufacturing experience/exposure.
  • Knowledge in programming and troubleshooting PLCs.
  • Some soldering and electronics experience.
