Job Summary
The Certified Peer Support Specialist is part of the primary care team for UMC Health System employees. The Peer Support Specialist is actively involved in addressing the social needs of employees and providing referral resources for needed care and treatment
Reports to: Director, Employee Wellness and Resilience and EAP Leadership Team

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Provide professional counseling/ talk therapy according to standards of care
• Refer patients to community resources and escalate care as appropriate
• Facilitate and assist employee team building exercises and mental health trainings
• All other related assigned duties

Education and Experience:
• Master’s degree
• Completion of an accredited program with certification recognized by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• (LPC) Licensed Professional Counselor, (LPC-A) Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, (LMFT) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or (LMFT-A) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to organize and prioritize workload and meet competing deadlines
• Ability to successfully counsel patients for improved mental and behavioral health
• Skilled in talk therapy and ability to effectively guide persons safely through counseling according to established standards of care and resource referrals
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships to work as a team in providing excellent quality patient care

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position will work closely with employees and UMC leadership team

Physical Capabilities
The incumbent is frequently required to stand; and walk and is occasionally required to balance, bend, and kneel. Vision: Requirements of this job include close vision. The incumbent must have the ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.

Environmental/Working Conditions
Works inside and under normal temperature conditions with adequate light, well-ventilated clean area. May be exposed to muscular standing, supporting, lifting and / or assisting patients.
