About the role

Betterment’s mission is to empower people to do what’s best for their money so that they can live better. As a Product Manager on our Betterment Advisor Solutions team, you’ll be responsible for executing against and helping to shape the product roadmap for a platform that allows registered investment advisors to efficiently manage their clients’ assets. You will be accountable for driving the next chapter of incredible growth in Betterment’s advisor business with expanded & improved portfolio management capabilities.

You will be expected to navigate multiple concurrent projects from a high level and be able to also quickly dive into the weeds with engineers as needed to address technical, project-specific roadblocks. You’ll need to roll up your sleeves and work shoulder-to-shoulder with both highly technical and non-technical teams across the organization throughout the entire product development lifecycle. You’ll need to prioritize effectively in order to ensure that our Betterment Advisor Solutions team is building best-in-class trading & portfolio management solutions for our advisor clients. 

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees. 

New York City: $140,000 - $165,000

A day in the life

  • Understand the workflows and business practices of investment advisors in our target market and serve as their advocate within the organization
  • Speak directly with advisor clients to explore ways that Betterment Advisor Solutions can continue to improve their practices and client relationships
  • Work collaboratively with multiple squads to create new capabilities to support (and delight!) our advisor clients
  • Ensure that the needs of our advisors are taken into consideration in the roadmaps of the platform teams who support our custody & trading capabilities 
  • Partner with design and engineering leads to help shape the product requirements for new releases into our advisor toolset
  • Attend standups, planning meetings, and retros to support the Advisor Portfolio Controls engineering team 
  • Coordinate with advisor-facing teams to navigate complex client situations and oversee successful rollouts
  • Work closely with Technical Program Managers to unblock or drive all phases of the software development cycle
  • Regularly communicate project goals, milestones, and progress to business stakeholders and executive leadership

What we’re looking for

  • 3-5 years of product management experience at a financial services or financial technology company with a focus on trading and/or portfolio management preferred
  • Strong analytical abilities with a passion for data-inspired decision making
  • Self-starter and demonstrated success at communicating, prioritizing, and balancing needs cross-functionally
  • Obsessive attention to detail and strong organization skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to build strong relationships across functions within an organization
  • Creative problem solving skills that balance complying with regulatory realities and a commitment to innovation 
  • Ability to think connect abstract or complicated back-end builds to delightful customer experiences
  • The story-telling capabilities that can help the organization see the long term vision of our advisor toolset

What happens next

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.

On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision. Please note that, as we usually receive an overwhelming number of  applications for open positions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process.
