The Canadian Depository for Securities (CDS) serves as Canada’s national securities depository, clearing, and settlement hub, providing the vital infrastructure required to support the integrity and efficiency of the Canadian capital markets. Within this ecosystem, the Asset Services Processing unit manages the entire lifecycle of Corporate Actions payment processing for securities held by CDS.
As an Analyst, Corporate Actions Processing, you will play a pivotal, high-impact role centered on managing the operational life cycle of all mandatory corporate action processing (such as Distributions, Name Changes, Mergers, and Stock Splits). Functioning as a reliable and essential informational connector, you will contribute significantly to the wider Canadian Capital Markets Infrastructure by ensuring the timely and accurate processing of all Corporate Action payments to CDS Participants. A vital aspect of this position is the unwavering commitment to cultivating and sustaining professional, courteous, and effective relationships with both external business contacts and diverse internal stakeholders.
This role reports to: Manager, Corporate Actions Processing
Job Location: Hybrid (2-3 days in office) - based in Toronto, ON.
Event Analysis & Deadline Management: Analyze corporate action event information, option terms, tax implications, and legal requirements to ensure full comprehension of each event. Proactively identify, diarize, and monitor critical dates (expiries, payment dates) to guarantee all deadlines are strictly met.
Processing & Payouts: Manage the end-to-end execution of corporate actions to ensure seamless event processing while maintaining system integrity. Balance payments against proceeds and authorize final participant payouts accurately.
Operational Optimization: Oversee the rigorous and timely processing of mandatory corporate action events across all requisite internal systems and external platforms. Identify workflow optimization opportunities, implement industry best practices, and leverage technology to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
Transaction Navigation: Determine, evaluate, and log applicable fees for exceptional, standard, and intermediate corporate action requests following thorough evaluations.
Strategic Partnership & Stakeholder Relations: Cultivate and sustain professional, courteous, and effective relationships with external business contacts and diverse internal stakeholders. Liaise with Transfer Agents, Paying Agents, the Depository Trust Company (DTC), and Legal Counsel to validate payment details and swiftly resolve discrepancies.
Proactive Risk Mitigation & Escalation: Ensure strict adherence to established protocols for the timely escalation of operational issues to management. Proactively analyze existing procedural frameworks and internal controls, proposing targeted improvements to mitigate risk, uphold a commitment to customer consideration, and guarantee best-in-class operational standards.
Must Have(s)
Sound understanding of the Canadian Securities Industry (Equities/Fixed Income).
2 to 3 years of proven experience within financial services, capital markets, or securities operations, with a specific focus on Asset Services or Corporate Actions processing.
Post-secondary degree in Business, Commerce, Finance or a related field.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex corporate action event terms, tax implications, and legal structures.
Proven ability to manage multiple high-priority transactions and other deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Great analytical/accounting skills to accurately determine standard to intermediate entitlement payments and finalize corporate action processes.
Excellent time-management and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage critical financial deadlines and high-volume workloads.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external entities (e.g., Transfer Agents, DTC, Legal Counsel).
Proficiency in navigation of financial systems, operational platforms, and reporting tools.
Intermediate to expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace.
Nice to Have(s)
Knowledge of Canadian capital markets infrastructure and CDS/DTC operations.
Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or equivalent).
Bilingual in English/French is an asset
Salary Range: $60,000/year - $65,000/year CAD.
