A Day in the Life
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role designing and developing state-of-the-art robotic systems that will have a global reach. This position is based out of the Laim district in Munich, Germany office, and offers the option to work 2 days per week from home office. Some domestic and international travel may be required as necessary although this would be less than 10% of the time.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for robotic-assist surgical-platforms
- Collaborate with a multinational, multidisciplinary team of electrical, software, and clinical engineers from the conceptual design phase through implementation, to design products, root cause issues, and implement design changes
- Design, procure, assemble, and evaluate prototypes
- Perform kinematic, structural, and empirical analyses to evaluate product performance and safety
- Compose engineering reports and presentations to document and communicate design deliverables and analyses
- Interact and negotiate with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and external partners
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent; Master's Degree preferred. Minimum of 4 years relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- Solid knowledge and experience creating components and assemblies with 3D CAD software (CREO preferred)
- Experience designing (electro-)mechanical components, mechanisms, and assemblies for production
- Expertise designing for manufacturability & assembly (DFM/DFA), creating engineering drawings for production, applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), performing tolerance stack analyses, and using analytical software such as Ansys, Minitab, MathCad, MATLAB, Simulink
- Experience designing parts for various production methods (gravity die casting, metal & plastic injection molding, 3D printing, milling, turning, sheet metal punching & bending, thermoforming)
- Experience with all phases of the product development lifecycle including input creation, design, prototyping, verification, and transfer to production
- Professional written and spoken working proficiency with English is required; good German language skills are beneficial. Strong communication skills to effectively work with a variety of stakeholders is essential
Experience in designing electronics packaging/enclosures and cabling is an advantage. Prior experience in the medical device or robotics industry is a further definite asset.
