Senior QA Automation Engineer - Payment Application

What does a successful Senior QA Automation Engineer do:

You will be responsible for assuring the quality, reliability, and compliance of backend configuration applications that support payment terminals (POS, SoftPOS, and related devices). This role focuses on testing configuration management services, device profiles, key injection workflows, parameter downloads, and terminal lifecycle events rather than end‑user or UI applications. The successful candidate will work closely with backend engineers, DevOps, Product and Agile/Scrum teams to ensure secure and scalable configuration delivery across diverse terminal fleets in regulated fintech environments.

What you will do:

• Design and execute test strategies for backend configuration platforms responsible for terminal setup, updates, and lifecycle management.
• Validate backend services that manage terminal configurations, parameters, keys, profiles, and firmware dependencies.
• Develop and maintain automation frameworks using Java, JavaScript, and TypeScript, leveraging Cucumber (BDD), REST Assured, Serenity, and API‑level test tooling.
• Perform comprehensive testing of RESTful and SOAP APIs, including validation of JSON/XML payloads, configuration schemas, and versioning behavior using Postman, SoapUI, and automated suites.
• Conduct load, stress, and resilience testing of backend configuration services using JMeter, simulating large terminal fleets and concurrent configuration downloads.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitLab to enable continuous validation of configuration changes and releases.
• Validate data persistence and correctness across backend data stores including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Support testing of backend platforms deployed on cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Analyse system behaviour using logging and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Kibana, and Grafana to identify configuration issues, performance bottlenecks, or failures.
• Ensure backend configuration services comply with payment industry standards such as PCI DSS, SEPA, and NEXO, with a strong focus on security and audit readiness.

What you will need to have:

• 5-6+ years of experience testing backend systems, preferably in payment terminal or device management platforms.
• Strong expertise in API automation and backend testing, with minimal dependency on UI layers.
• Hands‑on experience with automation frameworks (Cucumber, REST Assured, Serenity) and scripting in Java, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Proven experience testing terminal configuration services, device parameters, versioned configurations, or similar backend workflows.
• Solid working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases and backend data validation techniques.
• Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitLab.
• Familiarity with cloud‑native deployments, microservices architectures, and container orchestration.
• Proficiency with Agile collaboration tools including Git, Jira, Confluence, and Gerrit.
• Experience in the fintech or payments domain, especially related to cards, terminals, and backend processing systems.
