Position overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Essbase Specialist to join our Finance Technology / EPM team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Oracle Essbase (on-premises and/or Cloud) and related Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) tools, with the ability to design, implement, and optimize complex analytical and reporting solutions. This role requires a strong blend of technical capability, financial acumen, and communication skills to partner effectively with finance stakeholders, IT teams, and business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development

    • Develop, enhance, and maintain Essbase cubes for financial consolidation, reporting, forecasting, and analytics.

    • Design calculation scripts, business rules, partitions, outlines, and load rules.

    • Implement data integration processes from ERP (Oracle Fusion / E-Business Suite / SAP, etc.) and other source systems into Essbase.

  • Performance Optimization

    • Monitor and optimize cube performance, aggregation, and calculation times.

    • Conduct tuning of load rules, dimension structures, and database outlines.

  • Business Partnering

    • Work with Finance, FP&A, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into Essbase design.

    • Support planning, budgeting, and reporting cycles by ensuring timely and accurate data availability.

    • Work at any stage on a business and technology transformation project.

    • Identify scope, define requirements and create functional and/or technical specifications. Use expertise to develop and support proof of concepts, estimates, and conceptual designs.

    • Coordinate the implementation of the solution and support change efforts.

    • Recognized for their deep functional, industry or offering expertise and domain knowledge.

  • Support & Administration

    • Administer user security, application backup, patching, and version upgrades.

    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data loads, calculations, and reporting.

  • Innovation & Roadmap

    • Advise on Essbase roadmap, including migration to Oracle EPM Cloud (EPBCS, FCCS, PCMCS, OAC Essbase).

    • Explore opportunities to integrate Essbase with modern reporting and analytics tools (Smart View, Narrative Reporting, BI Publisher, OAC).
       

Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in Oracle Essbase (ASO/BSO cubes) development and administration.

  • Strong knowledge of MDX, calc scripts, load rules, report scripts, and Essbase partitioning techniques.

  • Experience with Smart View and financial reporting tools.

  • Proficiency in data integration tools (ODI, FDMEE, Data Management) and SQL.

  • Good understanding of financial processes (budgeting, forecasting, consolidation, management reporting).

  • Knowledge of EPM Cloud applications (EPBCS, FCCS, PCMCS, EDMCS) is a strong plus.

  • Experience with performance optimization and troubleshooting of large Essbase applications.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Oracle EPM / Essbase certifications.

  • Exposure to cloud migration projects (on-prem Hyperion to Oracle EPM Cloud / OAC Essbase).

  • Familiarity with GenAI/agentic AI use cases in EPM for automation and reporting (nice to have in forward-looking roles).
