Job Description
Our ambition in Global Product Operations is to support, enable, and improve the speed and effectiveness of the Global Product organization. We accelerate the creation of an elite portfolio of software-defined vehicles by tightly integrating software, hardware, and services to craft products people crave and experiences they never forget.
The Role:
The Senior Staff Product Operations Manager; Portfolio, Roadmaps & Resourcing is responsible for leading cross-portfolio operating mechanisms that connect strategy to execution across Product, Engineering, Design, and Program Management (PMO). You will consolidate portfolio strategy, steward roadmap governance, and drive the quarterly resourcing and prioritization process. This role requires a seasoned product operations leader who can influence senior stakeholders, establish crisp governance rhythms, and produce executive-grade insights that improve portfolio outcomes at scale.
This role serves as a system steward for portfolio governance and resource alignment, ensuring Global Product operates with consistent standards, predictable cadences, and transparent decision flows across all pillars.
We’re looking for a proactive, detail-oriented individual contributor who thrives in fast-paced environments, makes principled decisions, and builds consensus across diverse teams. A bias for simplifying complexity and improving operational clarity is essential, as your work will directly shape how GM’s Global Product organization and supporting teams operate.
What You’ll Do:
Portfolio & Strategy Consolidation
Synthesize strategies across sub‑portfolios to reveal interdependencies, risks, and opportunities.
Partner with Corporate Strategy and Strategic Risk Management on strategic analyses and projects that shape portfolio direction.
Resourcing & Prioritization
Lead quarterly cross‑portfolio resourcing reviews, delivering clear demand‑vs‑capacity views, trade‑offs, and portfolio‑level allocation decisions.
Run an integrated intake, sizing, and validation process (e.g., T‑shirt sizing, capacity checks) with Program Management and Engineering, ensuring decisions are reflected in systems of record.
Own product inputs to annual budgeting, long-term plan (LTP), and the 5‑year outlook, translating strategic priorities into consolidated resourcing and capacity requirements.
Portfolio Assessment
Maintain a repeatable assessment framework: market signals, customer value, velocity, quality, and financials; to inform continue/accelerate/pause recommendations.
Produce comparative analyses across org-level product portfolios to guide senior‑level prioritization.
Roadmap Governance, Quality, & Tooling
Define and run the governance cadence linking discovery, strategy, execution, and shipping.
Integrate Engineering, Design, and PMO rhythms to maintain a single source of truth for portfolio roadmaps and dependencies.
Drive roadmap and artifact quality standards, ensuring high‑fidelity data in systems of record.
Collaborate to implement a unified roadmap tool and continually improve supporting practices, templates, and workflows.
Coach teams on decision‑ready artifacts and executive‑level storytelling; escalate gaps and remove blockers to preserve portfolio flow.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
10+ years in product operations, portfolio management, or adjacent disciplines (e.g., Program/Portfolio PMO), with demonstrable impact across complex, multiproduct portfolios.
Proven expertise in establishing governance cadences, integrating cross-functional planning (Product/Eng/Design/PMO), and driving executive decision forums.
Advanced proficiency with portfolio analytics and performance measurement (KSIs, KPIs, OKRs) and translating insights into action.
Proven experience solving complex problems with multiple constraints, using sound judgment to assess risks and present well-structured, data-informed, written arguments.
Skilled in identifying key data and metrics necessary for decision-making and understanding the implications of their movement.
Strong communication and storytelling abilities, with a talent for articulating complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Experience leading through influence, driving results cross-functionally without a team of direct reports.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
Experience consolidating strategies across multiple product domains and preparing senior-leader ready materials.
Prior leadership of resourcing and prioritization processes at an enterprise scale.
Experience implementing product management tools and systems.
Deep knowledge of product development, lifecycle, and program execution deliverables.
Experience building portfolio scenarios with incomplete or ambiguous data.
Expertise driving adoption of new governance standards in large organizations.
Prior ownership of multi‑pillar dependency management.
General automotive industry expertise.
