Job Description Summary
As a Combustion Design Engineer, you will apply fundamental mechanical and aero thermal design principles to ensure Gas Turbine combustion component durability, operability, and lower emissions — bringing reliable, cleaner power to the world. This role uniquely bridges mechanical design and aero thermal engineering, offering a holistic ownership of combustion systems across new product introduction (NPI), fleet support, and service activities.
You will collaborate with world-class engineers to advance cutting-edge combustion technology on HA and F Class frame gas turbines, working toward net-zero emission energy production.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Design & Analysis
- Execute mechanical and aero thermal design of combustion systems for gas turbine engines using sound engineering principles, adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements
- Perform structural and thermal durability assessments using 1D calculations and FEA analysis
- Conduct predictive combustion dynamics, emissions, and combustion performance modeling using 1D/3D commercial and proprietary tools
- Interpret analysis results, identify key observations, and generate ideas to improve combustion system design from both mechanical and aero thermal perspectives
Testing & Validation
- Perform pre- and post-test data analysis for combustion performance, dynamics, and emissions
- Support testing and validation of combustion components through laboratory and rig activities
- Execute NPI design and fleet Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Design combustion components in close collaboration with Aero Thermal, Mechanical, Controls, Accessories, Manufacturing, and Product Services teams to meet program goals
- Interface effectively with external supplier base to provide timely support on manufacturing processes, part qualifications, and assembly issues
- Work within cross-functional teams to provide on-time resolution to combustion fleet issues with highest quality
Continuous Improvement & Documentation
- Contribute toward variable cost productivity for combustion components
- Take an active role in continuous improvement of design processes and data analysis techniques
- Document technical data consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
- Share engineering information and promote open technical dialogue
Required Qualifications
- Gas Power Edison Engineer; Completion of LPX, Teardown Training; Progress toward completion of Engineering Masters degree and/or ACE Certificate
