Summary

The Sales Director, Americas- Horizon Market Team will be responsible for leading the commercial execution of PM’s business strategy for the Americas region focused on primary sales markets including Defense, Space, and Nuclear Energy. This senior leader will lead and motivate a regional team consisting of field sales, customer service, field technical service, distribution, and channel management to deliver sustained, profitable growth.

In coordination with Vice Presidents/General, who lead the global businesses, and PM’s functional leadership, this senior leader will be responsible for developing a go to market strategy which captures new market opportunities and execution tactics for profitable growth in support of Materion’s business objectives.

This individual will have responsibility for driving effective solution selling and customer support activities to ensure customer satisfaction and for meeting revenue growth and market development objectives. As a senior Materion leader, this individual will also be responsible for identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to leverage scale and best practices to drive efficiency throughout the organization, partnering with commercial leadership in EMEA and APAC regions. This role will execute through interaction with direct reports and matrixed support provided by PM’s functional organizations and centers of excellence. 

The Sales Director, Horizon Team will report to the Chief Commercial Officer, Performance Materials and as a critical senior leader will work closely with the Vice President General Managers business leaders and other members of the business President’s Leadership Team to meet sales objectives and establish growth strategies in their respective markets.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the commercial execution of the Performance Materials (PM) long and short-term product line strategies to drive sustainable, profitable growth in collaboration with Materion’s senior business and functional leaders

  • Lead the region’s sales, customer service, distribution, and channel management teams to meet / exceed key performance metrics – including revenue, margin, and market penetration

  • Maintain and drive accurate monthly forecasts, budgets, and operating / short, mid and long-range plans

  • Execute on pricing expectations set forth by product management and convert leads into new business opportunities

  • Contribute to the development of Materion’s next generation of products by capturing the ‘voice of customer’ and defining the competitive landscape

  • Act as a key customer representative with PM’s Marketing, Innovation and Technology organizations; identify developing customer needs and opportunities to leverage PAC’s technology to solve customer problems

  • Leverage continuous improvement to enhance business processes and drive a robust pipeline of new business opportunities. Ensure an effective and efficient resource allocation and sales incentive structure to support growth opportunities and the long-term business strategy within the region.

  • Demonstrate leadership consistent with Materion’s values: Safety, Ethics, Social Responsibility, Collaboration, and Diversity + Inclusion

  • Create and sustain an engaging culture across the Americas sales workforce by openly and consistently communicating the business’s strategy, goals, accomplishments, and opportunities

  • Build and develop the talent pipeline; effectively manage the business’ talent and provide strong mentoring, coaching and growth opportunities to develop Materion’s future leaders

  • Challenge the status quo to take Materion to the next level of performance; team with peers in other regions and businesses to leverage best practices and tools

  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology to drive efficient processes and sales

  • Actively participate in industry associations to ensure Materion remains on the forefront of commercial excellence and forefront in the field of advanced materials in the minds of industry leaders

Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in engineering, material science, or related field is required. An MBA or master's degree, especially with a concentration in a related field, is preferred

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive global leadership experience with focus in sales, marketing, or business development. Experience leading sales functions of at least $100M in sales, including leadership experience in sales / marketing, technology, and new business development

  • Demonstrated experience tracking new business opportunities and closing $1M+ sales wins inclusive of contract negotiations with large public companies within either defense, space, or nuclear energy markets.

  • Demonstrated ability to grow a business and drive enhanced profitability. Brings a consistent track record of meeting or exceeding sales, margin, and profit targets. Prior experience in sales, new business development with “mission critical” materials technology experience a plus

  • Team Builder and Relationship Developer. Proven ability to attract, develop, motivate, retain and lead a high-performing team of professionals. Maintains a track record of developing and implementing performance metrics that are correlated with success, while holding a leadership team strictly accountable for results.  Demonstrated excellence leading across matrixed organizations through both direct leadership and persuasion
