Position Summary

The Town of Milton’s Operations Department is currently accepting applications for the contract position of Seasonal Operations Persons – Parks.

Successful candidates must be able to work April 28, 2025 to October 3, 2025, including shift work and weekends as required.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Performs outdoor grounds-keeping duties such as mowing, trimming, garbage collection, litter pick up, ball diamond grooming and other maintenance tasks on parks, sports fields, open spaces, and boulevards 

  • Operates equipment such as tractors and attachments, one ton dump trucks, truck and trailer, mini loaders, gators, and assorted small engines

  • Directs, guides and leads other staff assigned to work as part of the crew 

  • Maintains parks and open spaces to a safe and tidy standard and manages time effectively to complete work plans

  • Represents the Town of Milton in a professional manner and prioritizes customer service

  • Complies with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act 

  • Perform all other duties in a professional manner as assigned in accordance with Department objectives

Education & Experience

  • Secondary School Diploma required

  • Education and experience in turf maintenance and/or skilled trades is considered an asset

  • Qualified and trained in the operation of vehicles including; tractors with attachments, pickup trucks and 1 ton dump trucks.

Certifications and Designations

  • Minimum G license is required

  • DZ license is considered an asset

  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate/CPR and WHMIS is considered an asset

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Additional Skills

  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather

  • Must be able to perform manual labour including lifting over 50 pounds

The successful candidate must have a clean driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving habits. A recent driver’s abstract dated within 30 days will be required if selected for an interview. Persons with 4 or more demerit points need not apply.
