INTRODUCTION

Exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Product Engineer to be part of a global engineering team, working on products related to sensing, actuation, control and monitoring. The position requires concept generation, design & development, testing, and production launch activities in support of Barksdale’s actuation and sensing product line, which includes directional flow control valves, regulators, pressure relief valves, Electromechanical switches and transducers etc. In addition, the position may require project management of external product development by engineering firms. The engineer is also responsible for execution of design-related initiatives to reduce product cost while maintaining form, fit and function.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • New product development: Lead end to end design of sensing and actuation products (such as direction control valves, regulators, pressure relief valves, Electromechanical switches and transducers) from concept to successful launch, meeting delivery schedule, cost and quality requirements, in line with a structured stage gate process
    • Functional requirement generation: Convert customer need/requirement into functional requirement or product specifications
    • Product design: Start from a concept design and take it to through development phases to launch
    • Integration: Ensure that the packaging of the components is in accordance with the mechanical design, resulting in a functional system
    • Testing & troubleshooting Layout Test plan (DVP&R) based on inputs from DFMEA and product spec and execute functional and durability testing to meet specifications and certification requirements.

  • Sustaining Engineering:
    • Lead engineering development of simple as well as complex modification projects
    • Support value engineering and cost-out initiatives
    • Estimate costs and time to design and manufacture a product design
    • Engage with a  sense of urgency in addressing customer quality issues
    • Support production floor with product structure specific inquiries
    • Develop design solutions to customer applications

  • Leadership: Lead project team for portions of or a complete project, which generally involves directing the work of others and working with engineering resources in Germany and/or India design centers.

  • Communication: Interface as required with other disciplines including operations, quality assurance, purchasing to resolve problems and achieve required objectives. Communicate effectively with Project and Principal Engineers, senior management, vendors, and customers both orally and in writing.

CRITICAL FACTORS FOR SUCCESS

  • Proven track record of new product development from concept to launch
  • Prior experience on VA/VE and Product modifications
  • Proficiency with Engineering CAD software (SolidWorks preferred), Working knowledge of stress analysis (FEA) required
  • Experience in Design for manufacturing (DFM), FMEAs, DVP&R and 8D
  • Prior experience in Fluid power system components (valves, regulator, pump, transducer) preferred

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficiency with Engineering CAD software required; Experience in SolidWorks preferred, Working knowledge of stress analysis (FEA) required
  • Experience in Tolerance stack up analysis and GD&T required
  • Knowledge of QAD or equivalent ERP/MRP system required
  • Experience in the Fluid Power Industry (oil & gas, construction, mining, mobile hydraulics, etc.) preferred
  • Experience of high volume manufacturing processes
  • Experience working with certification agency (UL/CSA, ATEX) preferred
