Summary of Job Duties:
The College of Health Professions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) invites applications for a full–time, 12-month faculty position in the Department of Respiratory Care. This is an ideal opportunity for a creative, resourceful individual to contribute to established, high quality bachelor’s, master’s, and online degree programs. The program has an excellent national reputation, and strong institutional and community support.
The UAMS Respiratory Care programs are dedicated to developing practitioners of influence who demonstrate the value of our profession and lead it forward to meet the needs of a diverse healthcare community. The programs emphasize high-quality classroom teaching combined with excellent clinical rotations at our affiliate partner institutions. The programs demonstrate excellent accreditation outcomes and graduate success as the only program in Arkansas offering the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Respiratory Care. Students complete professional coursework as a 5 semester full time or 8 semester part-time track. An online degree advancement program is also offered to Registered Respiratory Therapists wanting to earn a BS degree.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in respiratory care, health science, education, leadership, science, or a related field OR Bachelor’s degree or higher in respiratory care, health science, education, leadership, science, or a related field – with agreement to complete a suitable master’s degree within 3 years.
- Active credentials as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care
- Current Arkansas state license as LRCP (or ability to obtain license)
- Minimum of three years’ experience as an RRT with experience in critical care.
- Demonstrated strength in communication, organizational, interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving
Preferred
- Five (5) years’ experience or more as an RRT with experience in critical care.
- Active NBRC Adult Critical Care, Neonatal – Pediatric, or Asthma Education Specialist certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support, NRP, or PALS Instructor
- Experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program as appointed faculty, instructor, or clinical preceptor.
- Experience in advanced patient assessment, diagnostics, hemodynamics, disease management
- Experience in interprofessional health care teams
- Experience with instructional technology within an online learning management system
- Experience with instructional simulation activities
- Active involvement in professional activities at the local, state or national level.
Additional Information:
Responsibilities
- Designs and teaches academic and laboratory courses in area(s) of content expertise at the junior, senior and degree advancement levels
- Teaches academic courses outside of specialty expertise in support of program requirements
- Provides bedside instruction and mentoring of students in clinical practicum rotations / internships
- Mentoring and advising students through academic and professional
- Designs and facilitates clinical simulation education
- Contributes to program and curriculum assessment, planning, and recruiting activities
- Engages in scholarly activity consistent with the professional expectations for core faculty
- Serves on Department and College committees and support the overall College of Health
