We're shipping every product that developers need to build successful products.
We started with open-source product analytics, launched out of Y Combinator's W20 cohort .
We've since shipped more than a dozen products, including a built-in data warehouse, a customer data platform, and Max AI, an AI-powered analyst that answers product questions, helps users find useful session recordings, and writes custom SQL queries.
Next on the roadmap are messaging, revenue analytics, and support products.
Our values are not a poster on the wall full of aspiration. They’ve come from how we really work, day in day out.
PostHog is Open Source, product led, and a default alive company that is well funded.
As a Product Engineer on the Product Analytics Platform you'll be building the foundational infrastructure that powers our Product Analytics suite at scale. Our mission is to create the high-performance backend systems that enable lightning-fast queries and insights across massive datasets
At the core of our platform is the infrastructure that makes our analytics features performant and reliable. You'll work on the critical systems that ensure billions of data points can be queried, aggregated, and analyzed in real-time.
While the Product Analytics team builds user-facing features, you'll focus on the engine that makes those features performant at scale. This includes:
Designing and implementing caching strategies to serve queries quickly
Building robust background job processing systems for cache warming and pre-computation
Managing alerts, subscriptions, and data exports that keep customers informed and connected to their data
Architecting data access patterns and query optimization strategies
You'll work closely with our Clickhouse team, solving complex performance challenges as we scale to handle massive datasets. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of our highest revenue product, ensuring customers can analyze their data instantly regardless of scale.
As we grow, you'll tackle increasingly complex scaling challenges - from query optimization to building intelligent caching layers. You'll be instrumental in maintaining sub-second query performance even as data volumes explode.
You now know what you’ll be doing, but what about what you’ll need to bring along?
You’re a genuine builder. PostHog is full of people who just love building stuff, people who would still be building software even if there wasn’t a paycheck at the end. We’re talking about taking projects from 0 to 1, e.g. You’re a former founder, lead, or maybe you’ve built an impressive side project!
You bring full stack-experience with relevant technologies. This is our stack, but we hire lots of people whose main experience is with a different stack.
You bring experience with database internals and high-scale data infrastructure as this is key to be successful in the role.
You think like a product engineer! You care more about building the best product for the users and helping your team ship than focussing on abstract goals. In short, we'd rather ship than sink, and part of that journey is documenting what you do.
You love getting things done. Product engineers at PostHog have an incredible amount of autonomy to decide what to work on, so you’ll need to be proactive and just git it done.
You’re ready to do the best work of your career. We have incredible distribution, a big financial cushion and an amazing team. There’s probably no better place to see how far you can go.
If this sounds like you, we should talk.
We are committed to ensuring a fair and accessible interview process. If you need any accommodations or adjustments, please let us know
Now that we've told you what you'll be building with us, let's talk about what we'll be building for you.
