Facility Process Engineer, Calgary 

We are looking for a team member who will provide senior process engineering support with a focus on ongoing operations of the facility. This position, based in Calgary, will report to the Facilities Engineering Manager. Our ideal candidate brings a depth of technical engineering knowledge and preferably experience at an operating company.

Your Day to Day will include:

  • Surveillance of the central processing facility performance using trends, models, etc to identify issues and make recommendations for improvement
  • Define, measure, analyse, improve and control opportunities for increased facility performance with focus on volumes and cost per barrel.
  • Own minor MOCs to improve facility performance.
  • Scope out and champion projects in the $100k to $5m range through FEED gate
  • Investigate equipment related incidents with support of site personnel.
  • Own the database of threats and opportunities to improve performance for a given area in the facility.
  • Participate in Re-HAZOPs of MEG's existing facilities.
  • Identify and execute initiatives to improve MEG’s process safety performance.
  • Work in a team environment with site engineers, operations coordinators, maintenance staff, discipline engineers
  • Mentor and influence junior engineers and operations staff.
  • Carry out process simulations, hydraulic analysis, and equipment evaluations for existing and new process systems.

What you will bring to MEG:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering from an accredited university recognized by APEGA. Candidates with alternate engineering specializations will be considered with the right experience.
  • A registered professional engineer with APEGA.
  • 15 years of related process engineering experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge in SAGD process equipment and systems (oil treating, water processing, steam generation, gas processing).
  • Proficiency in producing and reviewing process engineering deliverables.
  • Ability to quickly formulate sound technical solutions that balance economics with risk.
  • Experience participating in HAZOPs and risk reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability apply risk management concepts to support recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to travel to our Christina Lake facilities near Conklin, Alberta as the position requires.  This involves flying from Calgary to our Christina Lake aerodrome and staying in our on-site camp facilities.
