Get to Know Us
With more than 190 years of maritime experience, Svitzer is a global leader in towage and marine services. While our vessels operate on the water, our shore-based teams play a critical role in keeping operations safe, efficient, and running smoothly across Australia. At Svitzer, we value teamwork, reliability, and taking pride in doing things properly.
We are looking for an IT Support Technician to join our shore-based team in our new Fremantle office on a permanent full-time basis. This role suits someone who enjoys solving problems, supporting others, and working with technology in a practical, real-world environment.
Whilst a local IT presence in our Fremantle Office, you will collaborate closely with the broader IT team based in Sydney and global IT functions, including our global Service Desk. You will work with a high level of autonomy in your day-to-day activities and be trusted to manage priorities locally, respond proactively to issues, and deliver practical, effective solutions.
Why You’ll Want to Join Us
This role offers a hands-on opportunity to build and apply your IT skills in an operational environment where your work makes a real difference. You will support both office-based teams and vessel crews, helping keep systems reliable and people connected. There is opportunity to be involved in system rollouts, upgrades, and improvement initiatives as part of a broader national IT function. If you enjoy being trusted to get on with the job, take pride in delivering reliable support, and value being part of a professional but down-to-earth team, this role will suit you well.
How You’ll Make a Difference
Reporting to the IT Manager based in Sydney, your key responsibilities will include:
Providing first and second line IT support to shore-based and operational employees
Acting as the local IT support contact for the Fremantle office and supporting other Australian locations remotely
Troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues in a timely and user-friendly manner
Installing, configuring, and maintaining laptops, mobile devices, peripherals, and audio-visual equipment
Supporting Microsoft-based environments, including Windows and Microsoft 365 applications
Maintaining accurate IT asset records and assisting with equipment lifecycle management
Supporting IT projects, system upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives
Following IT policies, security requirements, and safety standards at all times
What You’ll Bring
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
A relevant IT qualification or equivalent practical experience
Practical experience supporting Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365
An interest in cloud-based services and modern device management tools
A basic understanding of networking, Wi-Fi, and mobile connectivity
Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, structured approach and the confidence to work autonomously
Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues in plain language
A customer-focused mindset and a willingness to learn and develop
A high level of self-motivation, accountability, and drive, with the ability to work independently while remaining connected to a remote team
Building a Diverse Workplace
In Svitzer we value the diversity of our talent and will always strive to recruit the best person for the job – we value diversity in all its forms, including but not limited to gender, age, nationality, race, sexual orientation, disability, or religious beliefs. We are proud of our diversity and see it as a genuine source of strength for building high performing teams.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that members from some under-represented groups are less likely to apply for jobs if they don’t meet every single qualification. At Svitzer we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles, and we are excited about hearing from you!
