Oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment to ensure the highest quality of workmanship, maximize efficiency, and ensure safety standards are adhered. Provide recommendations and update/develop documentation and job aids for maintenance or repair. Assist Manager in the establishment, implementation, and oversight of life safety and other emergency related procedures.

Maintenance Engineer Chief

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedules vendors for repairs, maintenance and installation.  Directs vendors’ work providing guidance and inspecting work.  Builds professional business relationships with vendors to facilitate responsiveness and quality.  Assesses and recommends vendors. 
  • Guides inspectors through property and mechanical systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining a variety of mechanical equipment in good working order to prevent breakdown.  Inspects equipment repairs and maintenance ensuring work is completed according to specifications.  Instructs colleagues on mechanical operations maintenance and repair procedures. Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment. Verifies maintenance and service records are up to date. 
  • Applies safe work practices including the safe handling of trade related chemicals, lock out/tag out and confined space procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment, and knowledge of electrical safety.
  • Ensures tools are maintained in good working order and stored properly and safely.  Periodically inventories tools and equipment. 
  • Responds to emergency mechanical and environmental situations directing staff and vendors as needed.

Minimum Requirements

     Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Certifications

  • Grade 3 Stationary Engineering License/Boiler Operation Engineer or higher with the City of Houston
  • HVAC Certification
  • Electrical Certification
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to operating company vehicles

Experience

  • At least twenty (20) years commercial operating, maintenance, and mechanical repair with a strong mechanical aptitude
