Marine Operator / Coxswain - Milford Haven

The Marine Operator will move into a stand in Coxswain position in the future, so if you have experience in operating a mooring launch / tug or similar, in a safe efficient and seaman-like manner having due regard to the prevailing weather conditions, state of tide and operational limitations that would be beneficial.

Principal Responsibilities.

  • Liaise with Shift Supervisor and Team Leader to meet operational Requirements.
  • Operate mooring equipment and machinery within prescribes safe working limits.
  • Moor and unmoor vessels safely.
  • Connect and disconnect cargo transfer hoses and / or arms.
  • Work as deckhand on the T Class Line Boat, Safety Boat and Barge in a safe manner.
  • Maintenance work (greasing) of dolphins mooring hooks and loading arms on the berths.
  • Assume berth ownership and perform routine checks of safety equipment of jetty area.
  • Initiate defect, hazard / near miss and accident / incident reports (as required)
  • Meet operational requirements by actively participating in voluntary overtime.
  • Undertake any other duties as required.
  • Undertake planned preventative and cosmetic maintenance (as directed)
  • Maintain standards of performance and behaviour as laid down for members of the shift teams.
  • Participate in all the required safety matters.
  • Be open to change in working practices, procedures and any development within your scope of work and role within the Company.
  • Share knowledge and experience, especially with new recruits.

  Health and Safety Environment.

  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Group Health Safety and Environmental Policy.
  • Adhere to Safe Working Systems.
  • Carry out the Loss Prevention Self Assessment (LPSA) program before commencing each task.
  • Participate in all Tool Box Talks.
  • Be familiar with relevant OH&S, environment and security regulations and reporting as appropriate.
  • Comply with SVITZER health, safety, environment and security management systems and procedures.
  • Participation in safety training, including any training of other crew members
  • A commitment to undergo training to meet business requirements.
  • Participate in any training the Company deems necessary to enable you to carry out your duties safely, competently and efficiently

  Emergency Response Tasks.

  • Respond to the Refinery’s fire alarm system.
  • Disconnect and sail vessels if required.
  • Run out spill booms in the event of an oil spill.
  • Respond to an emergency as laid down in the Terminal’s COMAH.

 Technical Integrity.

  • National Safety Passport  (valid for 3 years)
  • Breathing Apparatus training  (valid for 1 year)
  • Established knowledge and experience of jetty operations.
  • OCIMF Marine Terminal Training and Competence Assessment.
  • Ability to identify, analyse and solve minor problems.
  • Pre determined response to audible and visual alarms.

 Communications / Reports.

  • Ability to convey ideas or messages clearly, either orally or in writing.
  • Liaise with the Shift Supervisor and Team Leader as to the Operational requirements.
  • Liaise with the Shift Supervisor and Svitzer Management team.
