The Flow Modeling group within the D&E Machine Conditioning – Defectivity & Optics Lifetime department focuses on high‑fidelity simulations that support product performance and risk mitigation. In this internship you will help validate drag force models and improve understanding of particle transport. Your work contributes to reducing contamination risks and improving system reliability. You will combine physics-based modeling with data from experiments. This internship offers hands-on experience with advanced simulation and real test data.
In this internship you will validate and improve drag force formulations and analyze the impact of environmental factors such as humidity on particle behavior. You will build on existing models and compare simulation results with experimental data. Your main responsibilities will be:
Validate drag force models using established formulations and simulation results
Analyze the impact of humidity on particle drag and transport behavior
Use existing CFD models to simulate realistic use cases
Compare simulation outputs with experimental test data
Perform sensitivity studies to evaluate model robustness
Document findings and propose improvements to modeling approaches
Present results to the team and support technical discussions
This is a master’s non-thesis internship for 5 months, minimum 5 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026.
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are a master’s degree student in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering
Have experience with computational fluid dynamics modeling
Are familiar with programming in Python or MATLAB
Are analytical and structured in your approach to problem solving
Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with experts
