The Position:

This position will report directly to the Portfolio CFO and work as part of the broader JEM Finance team. They will be a key part of portfolio reporting as well as working with the portfolio business units to improve group reporting and internal processes and controls.

The ideal candidate will have a solid grounding in accounting, finance, and general business concepts, with superior technical accounting, analytical skills, a strong work ethic, and great interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monthly portfolio accounting tasks, such as posting journal entries, distributing intercompany charges, processing of invoices, booking cash entries and maintaining general ledger accounts.
  • Perform and review account reconciliations and identify areas of weakness across the portfolio.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of multiple business unit deliverables to close quarter/year ends including note disclosures.
  • Analyze newly acquired business’ accounting and reporting practices and implement consistent reporting in line with corporate requirements.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly financial analysis of variances from forecast and actual financial results.
  • Assist with review of Risk Control Matrix and testing at both newly acquired and existing businesses.
  • Assist with preparation of acquisition deliverables, and the financial integration of new businesses including account mapping, and system integration.
  • Frequent interaction with the corporate finance team on various ad-hoc requests.
  • Assistance with ad-hoc assignments as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • University or college degree in business or accounting is ideal. Accounting designation is an asset
  • Public accounting and/or industry experience desired.
  • Ideal Candidate is Experienced Senior Accountant working towards progression
  • Experience with ERP implementation is an asset
  • 3 - 5 years finance or corporate accounting experience, with experience in a technology-based environment being an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel is required, as are excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and applications under IFRS.
  • Experience working with Great Plains and BPC consolidation software is an asset.       
  • Attention to detail with an emphasis on time management to effectively meet deadlines.
