Position Summary

The position requires full responsibility for application and design of automotive gasoline and diesel turbochargers. This includes customer interfacing to gather technical requirements, selecting and designing products from the BorgWarner portfolio, and coordinating internal activities such as matching, prototyping, validation, and release.

The role also involves leading concept and detailed design of turbocharger systems and components, ensuring product performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability, as well as resolving engineering issues throughout the product development lifecycle.

Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Customer & Application Engineering:

- Interface with customers in Japan for application of BorgWarner turbocharger products.

- Define thermodynamic specifications and technical requirements based on customer data.

- Select appropriate turbocharger products and support system matching activities.

- Create D-FMEA based on the requirements form the customer.

- Make DVP&R and coordinate the support from other functional areas (validation and release, quality, manufacturing) to carry it out.

- Support engineering issue resolution using systematic problem-solving methods.

- Provide technical support to both customers and suppliers.

Design Engineering:

- Create concept, package, and detailed design of turbocharger systems and components (3D/2D)

- Develop and release design documentation including customer drawings

- Perform tolerance analysis and GD&T-based design validation

- Coordinate with simulation/FEA teams to ensure functional design robustness

- Apply Design for Value principles considering cost, function, and manufacturability

- Ensure CAD and drawing quality according to BorgWarner and customer standards

Safety:

  • This position will adhere to safety rules, practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner Safety Policy Manual, which includes the use of equipment, protective devices, or clothing that the employer requires. This individual will work in manners that stress the importance of preventing accidents and illnesses.  He/she must take every precaution reasonable in the given circumstance for the protection of themselves and coworkers.  In addition, he/she is responsible for reporting all injuries and/or possible dangerous situations, incidents, or occurrences to the immediate supervisor.
  • Meet EHS responsibilities requirement.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above in turbocharging, internal combustion engine, fluid kinetics, or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in automotive turbocharger, engine technology development or application.
  • Good organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in procedures and workflow cycles of automotive industry is desired.
  • Knowledge of the current quality specifications (IATF16949)
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Professional verbal and written English & essential Japanese language communication skills.
