What you will do

Our Johnson Controls Industrial Refrigeration engineering team has an immediate opening for an Engineering Manager at our Federalsburg, MD facility.  In this role, you will lead a team of engineers and designers in the execution of customer orders for our Industrial Refrigeration business.

You will have an influence on the conceptual development, analysis, detailed design, and overall performance of sophisticated refrigeration products and systems. As a recognized technical subject matter expert, this role will also provide support to other engineers, designers, sales, manufacturing, test lab, service, aftermarket support, and marketing teams located locally and globally. You will also ensure engineering documentation is processed on-time, within budget and in compliance with specifications and contract terms.

How you will do it

  • Provide daily direction to team members and manage all project issues and risks.  Develop yearly goals, set priorities, implement training, and administer performance reviews.

  • Implement continuous improvements and track progress with key performance indicators (KPIs) to reduce cost, improve efficiency and quality.

  • Utilize mechanical engineering theory and methodologies such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, failure analysis and the refrigeration cycle to develop solutions to customer requirements.  Relate applicable codes and standards to designs

  • Routinely provide guidance to suppliers, customers, sales and operations

  • Maintain awareness of industry trends through active involvement with industry organizations

  • Serve as primary contact to the leadership team on project status and provide progress updates

What we look for

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited)

  • Minimum 8 years of applicable experience in engineering

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams) as well as knowledge and experience with 3D parametric models

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Self motivated work initiative and customer oriented mindset

  • Fluent in thermodynamics and the refrigeration cycle

  • Basic understanding of fundamental business processes

Preferred

  • Master degree or PE license

  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading an engineering team in a manufacturing environment

  • Knowledge in SAP and NetSuite
