Layout Supervisor - BC or Montreal-based; Sept 2024 start date 

We are looking for a Layout Supervisor to join our team to bring the directors vision to life. If you enjoy the challenge of shaping a pipeline and helping deliver our first feature animated film, this is a project for you!  

 

What you’ll be doing:  

  • Work under the Producer(s) and Project manager supervisor to deliver the project within  schedule and find solutions to keep the quota aligned. 
  • Extensive experience in sequence-based pipelines, ensuring seamless integration of assets, camera work, and shot continuity across the project during the Rough Layout phase. 
  • Strong background in shot-based workflows during final layout, ensuring precise camera placement, composition, and alignment with the creative vision for each shot. 
  • Effective communication and collaboration with production teams, directors, and the layout team to achieve a unified creative vision.  
  • Attend and engage actively in meetings. 
  • Delegate, oversee, and assess the layout team's assignments along with the Layout Lead. 
  • Participate in layout (RLO and FLO) reviews alongside the Unit and Show Director   
  • Clarify any required revisions to artists and ensure follow-up on these revisions in cooperation with the coordination team 
  • Keep the team informed of project-related updates and developments   
  • Collaborate with CG Supervisors and Pipeline department to enhance procedures, tools and technology for production optimization. 
  • Ensure that the conversion from the storyboard into a 3D scene aligns with the director's directives regarding framing and camera movement 
  • Maintain close coordination with other supervisors to facilitate a seamless transition from asset production, through layout and into animation, rendering, etc., and provide ongoing support to the team during production 
  • Proactively identify and address potential and actual technical issues from storyboard to final layout 
  • When needed by production; expertise in scouting sets, identifying optimal camera angles, and ensuring environments are fully prepared for seamless integration into the layout process. 
  • Offer support to production and CG Supervisors to establish the layout workflow, including, references, resource requirements, methodologies, tools, schedules, and work assignments. 
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and training for the team and other supervisors, on tools, pipeline and workflow. 
  • Serve as the primary liaison for inter-departmental communication  
  • Readily address inquiries from the layout team and other teams 
  • Provide constructive feedback to each artist regarding their performance 
  • Actively engage in the process of selecting new artists and provide support and facilitate the onboarding of new employees  
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by management 

 

 

What you’ll bring:  

  • Feature Animation experience in Layout  
  • 5+ years of experience in Layout/Previs, and 3+ years of experience as a Layout/Previs Supervisor 
  • A keen eye for visual composition and a solid understanding of camera techniques 
  • Strong storytelling abilities are essential for this role   
  • Ability to maintain visual continuity throughout a scene 
  • Excellent proficiency in Maya  
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to train and guide a team of professionals  

 

Compensation Overview 

Pay Range: $2500 - 2800 CAD Weekly   

This salary range provided reflects our current expectations for these roles as of this posting’s date. Your final salary offer will consider various key factors, including your education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographical location, as well as the needs and requirements of the business.
