Job Description Summary:

A position is available for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). Candidates will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Halinder Mangat, who is an Associate Professor of Neurology in Neurocritical Care, and Director of Clinical Research, Brain Trauma Foundation. The fellow will be extensively involved in a severe traumatic brain injury Phase 1 multi-center clinical trial funded by the Department of Defense.

Training will be provided through KUMC. The fellow will have access to an integrated and comprehensive research environment for the clinical trial and related research activities.

Prior training in clinical trial methodology or clinical epidemiology is required and knowledge if clinical trial methodology and oversight is essential.

A postdoctoral scholar at KUMC is expected to: Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research, train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research, as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor, participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia, participate in the University’s Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars, have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree (such as MD, DVM, PsyD, PharmD, etc.), and candidates should have strong English skills and demonstrate an ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience. Candidates must be able to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects. Ideally, the fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze data, write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications, and supervise graduate students.

Work Experience: Experience in injuries research.

  • Manuscript writing and publication

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Analyze and disseminate findings from basic and clinical research at the KUMCRI, including but not limited to analysis of data with advanced software, and developing and submitting manuscripts for publication.

  • Participate in finalizing standard operating procedures, statistical analysis plan, manuscripts and their publications.

  • Perform systematic reviews on related topics and prepare manuscripts.  

  • Participation in grant development and submission, including training grants and research grants to be conducted by both the fellow and others.

  • Attention to detail, multitasking, ability to work within a team, and supervise the rest of the team, including research assistants and students.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
