Job Summary

Working under the direction of a Staff Anesthesiologist, administers anesthesia to patients rendering them insensitive to pain during surgery. Monitors the patient's physical reaction to the anesthetic and informs the physician of any adverse condition. Administers emergency measures when complications arise.

Our team manages all cases, excluding trauma, OB, open heart, and liver. Most of our AAs work 12-hour shifts. These positions do not involve weekday call or working nights.

The city of Weston is in Broward County, just west of Fort Lauderdale. Weston is ~30 miles northwest of Miami and part of the Miami metropolitan area.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains a comprehensive patient history and performs relevant elements of a physical exam.
  • Discusses findings and anesthetic plan with anesthesiologist before induction of anesthesia.
  • Reviews patient's condition with anesthesiologist immediately prior to induction of anesthesia.
  • This includes changes in patient's condition, review of administration of any pre-anesthesia medication, selection of anesthetic agent and technique.
  • Pretests and calibrates anesthesia delivery systems.
  • Administers anesthetic drugs, adjuvant drugs and accessory drugs.
  • Assists anesthesiologist with the implementation of medically accepted monitoring techniques, epidural anesthetic procedures, spinal anesthetic procedures and other regional anesthetic techniques.
  • Recognizes and takes appropriate action for abnormal patient responses during anesthesia, including resuscitation, until patient regains control of vital functions.
  • Administers blood, blood products and supportive fluids. Provides post-anesthesia recovery care to the patient for as long as necessary, keeping anesthesiologist informed as to the patient's progress.
  • Displays title of Anesthesiology Assistant as a means of identifying the individual's authority to practice.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • A baccalaureate or higher degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by an organization recognized by the board of regents.
  • Completion of an anesthesiologist assistant training program that has been accredited by the commission on accreditation of allied health education programs, or equivalent.

Certifications:

  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (AA).
  • Current, valid Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA) license in the state of Florida. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Written practice protocol consistent with section 4760.09 of the Revised Code.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion; manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time and the ability to lift and transport patients.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
