Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer (Tools) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This role, based in Colorado Springs, CO, is vital in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Relocation assistance is not offered for this position, and the role requires on-site presence with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial element of the Missile Defense System. It provides a key operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.

C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability that delivers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Furthermore, C2BMC is an essential part of all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.

Responsibilities for this position mainly include implementing features and developing a new backend system called Forge from scratch. This system is designed to serve as a supplementary backend tool to help reduce the difficulties of using the existing backend systems on the C2MBC-Global program.

Essential Functions:

• Supporting and maintaining C2BMC-Global's CI/CD pipeline, which depends on in-house scripts and applications to provide a smooth and straightforward process for expanded integration testing across the extensive system of applications used within the program
• Managing GitLab merge requests, supporting other teams with tool-related problems and bugs, and addressing high-priority issues for the team, known as PRs

Basic Qualifications:

Please include your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 years of related experience with a PhD. Or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
• Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
• Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

Preferred Qualifications:

• Background experience in backend software engineering, especially with Java or MATLAB, is highly preferred to meet the Tools Team's current needs
• Experience in maintaining and adding features to frameworks and similar systems is also a significant advantage
• Other helpful aspects include experience with automation and CI/CD pipelines, as well as experience working in fast-paced, collaborative team environments
• Experience with Java, especially with Swing and using reflection within the language
• The IDE commonly used for Java development is typically:
  • Eclipse, but VSCode is an alternative IDE as desired
• Bash/Unix, Python, and MATLAB for maintaining existing applications and frameworks within the tools team
• Additional highly preferred tech skills include:
  • Experience with Agile workflows
  • Familiar with Jira and Confluence interfaces
  • Knowledge of using Microsoft Teams and Mattermost
  • Experience with Git and GitLab

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
