Idaho Power — located in vibrant Nampa, Idaho — is looking for a Residential and Commercial Energy Advisor to join our Customer Operations team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to safely provide our customers with the reliable, affordable, clean energy they depend on. This position is based in Caldwell at Idaho Power’s Canyon Operations Center location. We offer a flexible schedule with the opportunity to work up to 40% remotely.

What does a Residential and Commercial Energy Advisor do for us?

They operate as an energy advisor providing customer solutions and technical expertise to resolve complex and sensitive issues for residential and commercial customers. They educate customers on energy consumption and energy efficiently opportunities. They maintain a high-level of customer satisfaction and is highly effective in two-way communication, problem resolution, negotiation, with advocacy and influence on behalf of the company.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Electrical system operation and protection equipment
  • Lighting design and equipment
  • Power quality issues and mitigation options
  • Interpretation of feeder and plat maps
  • Sales techniques, and selling process
  • Energy efficiency

Preferred:

  • Residential, commercial building, and electrical codes

Skills in:

  • Basic use of personal computers using Microsoft Office Suite, CLRIS, and customer information systems
  • Effective verbal and written communication to individuals and groups
  • Public speaking, presentation, and negotiation

Ability to:

  • Work as a team member with all departments
  • Work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Work flexible hours and work schedules
  • Be flexible and creative in approaching job duties
  • Initiate action independently as needed with planning and organizing abilities leading to effective recommendations and decision making


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

OR

  • Equivalent combination of formal education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or other related field and training in HVAC systems, heat loss/gain, and lighting

Experience:

  • 3 years of external customer contact experience including 2 years of utility experience or marketing or relationship/account management experience

Preferred:

  • 5 years of experience in sales, marketing, customer service, or a technical field related to utility/energy operations
  • Experience with HVAC systems, heat loss/gain, and lighting

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Job requires the ability to occasionally bend, stoop and squat, ascend/descend stairs, ladders, climb in to and out of vehicles; twist, kneel, balance; rarely crawl. Rarely lift 10 lbs. shoulder height and above; rarely lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. waist high and knee high; rarely use exertional force less than 50 lbs.; occasionally use two hands to carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. and one hand to carry items weighing up to 25 lbs. Frequent grasping and using fine hand manipulation for small hand tools, driving, computer keyboard. Must be able to withstand confined spaces and heights. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Job requires occasional travel with overnight stays and the ability to provide safe, reliable transportation. In addition, job may require the ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces at residential and small commercial buildings; and perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. Position occasionally requires evening and weekend work representing the Company.
