Production Operator

SHIFT: 1st Shift 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday and some overtime/weekend work.

PAY: $25.05

JOB SUMMARY:

This role is part of our Purina Animal Nutrition business helping our network of local cooperatives, independent dealers and other large retailers serve producers, and animal owners throughout the United States. Through industry -leading R&D and committed partnerships, we innovate the nutrition products and practices that unlock the full potential of every animal for a healthier, more productive life. 

Focus:

Maintain a clean production environment in all areas of the facility. In addition, work with all operators and supervisors, as needed, to schedule equipment cleanings.  

Job Description: 

The Utility Operator’s key objective is to maintain the plant in a clean and well organized condition. This will require following established Housekeeping schedules, routinely cleaning every floor in the plant and the outside perimeters.  The Utility Operator will take appropriate measures to work safely during the performance of their Housekeeping duties. The Utility Operator will follow a housekeeping schedule to ensure that all areas are being cleaned on a routine basis.  Document each time an area is completed on the schedule and move on to the next area. The Utility Operator is responsible for all areas being kept clean that are not directly related to an operator’s work station (see Housekeeping Schedule). Accurately complete all paperwork according to EQMS and regulatory compliance. Communicate with Quality Program Supervisor (QPS) daily to ensure that desired levels of cleanliness are being met.  When an unforeseen large spill/equipment failure occurs communicate with Production Supervisor for direction.  Also, communicate with Maintenance on any findings dealing with equipment and leaks.

All utility operator will comply with the site Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including housekeeping guidelines and complete all necessary paperwork, written and electronic.

  • Perform required job functions and duties sufficiently with minimal supervision and assist in troubleshooting
  • Able to work overtime when necessary
  • Assist other operators when needed
  • Other duties as assigned by Production Supervisor or Lead Person

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school or GED education required
  • Entry level position; typically requires no experience  
  • Must be able to lift at least 60 pounds from the floor to a height of 50 inches using safe lifting practices
  • Able to withstand heights such as tops of bins, legs, and other equipment
  • Proficient in basic computer skills
  • Must be able to perform simple math with calculator

  • Basic computer skills

  • Age: 18 years or older
  • Comprehension: Ability to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Safety: Ensuring the complete physical safety of oneself and one’s co-workers at all times without exception

  • Coordination: Working well with others to meet team goals and adjusting to important changes

  • Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate.

Physical Requirements for production positions regularly include:

  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements
  • Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment
  • Working across temperature zones that may include cold and/or hot environments for extended periods and may include work in environments where dust is present
  • Shift schedules that include days, nights, and weekends, some holidays and periodic overtime
