Job Description:

Sun Life Canada has embarked on an exciting journey to expand its wealth management distribution platform to include full-service investment dealer capabilities. We are looking for an energetic leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has an entrepreneurial spirit and a proven track record invoking change within large organizations. The Director will leverage their extensive knowledge of the investment industry, specifically within IIROC dealer member firms. Reporting directly to the AVP, Head of Product, Sun Life Canada Securities Inc. (SLCSI), this is a senior role responsible for product strategy and the build out of our managed account, SMA/UMA program.

The build out of SLCSI is set on three foundational pillars, Platform, Product and Support. This role will touch all three but have heavy focus on the Product pillar. It is here that the candidate will support the AVP on the enterprise-wide product strategy and the development of a managed/discretionary account program that will include the build and management of a SMA/UMA program.

What will you do?

  • Support the Head of Product with the development and launch of a SMA and UMA program that will evolve as the dealer grows
  • Operationalize the product strategy for the UMA program
  • Play an integral role in the governance of the dealer’s product shelf that includes:
    • The development of product governance policies
    • Manage the day-to-day functions for the product shelf and including firm level reporting to present to the product approval committee
  • Assist with due diligence review of firms and individual products for approval on to the product shelf
  • Interface with investment advisors on UMA/SMA and product training, investment selection and portfolio construction

What do you need to suceed?

  • 7+ years of investment dealer experience
  • Experience working within an IIROC dealer
  • Familiarity with UMA/SMA or portfolio management platforms and ability to customize them to meet specific needs is an asset
  • CFA or other investment related post-graduate education is an asset
  • Deep understanding of various investment product types and portfolio construction skills is required
  • University degree in Finance-related field is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills in forming trusting, candid relationships with advisors, internal stakeholders, and investment teams
  • Demonstrated presentation skills (advisor-facing presentations, either small group or main stage)
  • English/French bilingualism is an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
